NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race No. 6 Goody’s Fast Relief 500

Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, Martinsville, Virginia

Race Information: Event: Goody’s Fast Relief 500, Sunday, April 3 at 1:00 p.m. Local. Track: Martinsville (Va.) Speedway Qualifying: Saturday, April 2 at 12:10 p.m. Local Time Track Length: .526-mile paved oval.

Last Time Out; Auto Club Speedway: For the fifth consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event this season, J.J. Yeley and the Whitney Motorsports team qualified for the Auto Club 400. After starting shot-gun on the field (43rd) after experiencing motor gremlins before qualifying, Yeley methodically and quickly maneuvered his way through the field, picking up 12 positions in the first handful of laps. During an early race caution, Yeley put his No. 46 atop of the leader board and controlled the field for two laps. Shortly after, Yeley unfortunately would have to take his No. 46 Chevrolet Impala to the garage on lap 47 after developing electrical issues. He would be credited with a 41st place finish.

Back At The Clip: J.J. Yeley hopes to make his seventh career start at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, otherwise known as the paperclip track in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The tight and tedious .526-mile oval is the smallest track on the NASCAR circuit. In his previous six starts, Yeley qualified a career-best fifth in 2007; while also posting a solid eighth place qualifying effort later that year. His best finish occurred in his Martinsville debut where he finished 20th after qualifying 18th in April of 2006.

Facebook Fun: By visiting the official J.J. Yeley Fan Page on Facebook, fans will have the opportunity to place “Speed Dice.” Fans are encouraged to submit a number between 2-12 and Yeley himself puts two dice inside his No. 46 Whitney Motorsports Chevrolet and upon returning to the garage from the completion of his qualifying run, Yeley retrieves the dice and works with his management team to see which fans guessed the correct number for the dice. Once the guessers are correctly chosen, Yeley then places all the winners into his helmet with their name on it, shakes the helmet and retrieves the final winner of the weekly addition of “Speed Dice.” The winner will receive a memorabilia item from J.J. Yeley himself. For additional rules and instructions on how to play, please visit J.J. Yeley’s Facebook fan page.

Five-For-Five: J.J. Yeley in the No. 46 Whitney Motorsports Chevrolet Impala has had to qualify for each and every NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event thus far in 2011. Yeley, the Phoenix, Arizona native has successful earned a starting position in each of the five races run this season. The team started out the year by qualifying for the prestigious Daytona 500. The team’s best qualifying run to date occurred in race number three where the No. 46 qualified a season-best 32nd at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway. He will look to make it six-for-six on Saturday. 45 cars have entered for the 43 car starting field.

Laugh Out Loud: Have you laughed out loud with J.J. Yeley lately? Yeley gives his personal insights on the latest happenings in the NASCAR garage, his thoughts on Martinsville and a whole lot more! Check it out at jjyeley.com, his Facebook or Youtube.com. His next pod cast will be April 13.

A Blast From The Past: Did you know that in 2005, J.J. Yeley made his Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) debut. Driving the No. 2 Joe Gibbs Performance Racing Oil in an alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing and Wayne Hixson Motorsports, Yeley qualified ninth and drafted his way to an impressive third at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in his inaugural restrictor plate debut. Joe Gibbs Racing utilized the development series to prepare Yeley for his impending full NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule which kicked off at the 2.5-mile superspeedway.

Martinsville (Va.) Speedway Pre-Race Quotes: J.J. Yeley, driver of the No. 46 Red Line Oil Chevrolet Impala:

On Martinsville (Va.) Speedway: “Martinsville speedway is one of original gems on the NASCAR Sprint cup schedule, to see in person how tiny the track really is would astonish most race fans.”

On Racing At The Tightest Racetrack On The NASCAR Circuit: “Racing at Martinsville requires more patience than any other track. It is easy to abuse your equipment or get into a scuffle on the track, having to make a green flag pit stop will take you out of contention immediately.”

On His Fondest Memory At Martinsville (Va.) Speedway: My fondest moment of racing in Martinsville would come from my rookie year in Cup, I qualified fifth and ran in the top-10 the entire day. I had a very fast car and was caught up in a late race fight that ended up with me getting a flat left rear tire and a bad finish.”

On The Famous Martinsville Hot Dogs: “I have never tried nor will I be having one in the near future. There is something about the appearance of them that just doesn’t make me hungry.”

On The Overall Improvement Of His Whitney Motorsports Team In 2011: “It has been great to make all of the races so far in 2011. The key part is that we have out qualified some big teams and continue to improve our No. 46 Whitney Motorsports Chevrolet on a weekly basis. As we continue to make races the team will have the ability to improve equipment and prepare for racing select races in the future.”

On Playing A Prank On April Fools Day: “Ah, yes practice will be on April Fools day. I don’t intend to prank anyone though (it would be too obvious).”
