Philip Morris will continue national title quest Saturday when SoBo hosts the GCR presents Spaulding Equipment Co. Late Model 150

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — Philip Morris will continue his quest for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series national championship Saturday night when South Boston Speedway hosts GCR presents Spaulding Equipment Co. Late Model 150 racing program.

Morris, who owns a single-season track record of 18 victories this year, has already clinched the 2011 South Boston Speedway NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division championship and is now focused on securing the NASCAR Whelen All American Series national crown and the Virginia state championship.

As of last week, Morris owned the lead in the national championship chase and in the battle for the Virginia. Morris a former South Boston Speedway champion is seeking his fourth NASCAR Whelen All American Series national championship.

The featured attraction of the GCR presents Spaulding Equipment Co. Late Model 150 racing program will be a 150-lap race for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division. Also scheduled on Sept. 3 is a race for the Limited Sportsman Division, two clashes for the drivers in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and an event for the competitors in the Southern Vintage Modifieds.

The first race of the evening will begin at 7 p.m.

Female competitor Natalie Sather is second in the South Boston Speedway NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division standings, while Matt Bowling is third and is only eight points ahead of fourth-place Dennis Holdren.

While Morris has already secured the South Boston Speedway NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division championship, the battle for the other division titles at America’s Hometown Track will be decided Saturday night.

Danny Willis Jr. enters Saturday’s Limited Sportsman Division race with a 15-point cushion over second-place Brian Pembelton. Bobby McCarty owns the third-place spot in the standings and is followed by defending division champion Justin Snow.

Joe Allred will try to maintain a 23-point lead in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division standings when he heads into Saturday’s twin events. Trey Crews is second in the title chase, while Stuart Crews is third and is only five points ahead of fourth-place Randy Hupp.

Darryl Lacks leads the championship chase in the Southern Vintage Modifieds. Donnie Lacks is second in the standings. He trails Darryl Lacks by 10 points and he is only three points ahead of third-place Daryl Gwynn.

Pit registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Practice for all divisions will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and admission will be $10 for adults and children under the age of six will be admitted free with a paid adult.
