Chris Lawson to make ARCA Racing Series debut at Daytona
Press ReleaseChris Lawson will make his ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards debut at Daytona Int’l Speedway for the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200.
Although Lawson has three NASCAR Nationwide Series starts, and one NASCAR Camping World Truck start under his belt, this will be his first attempt at an ARCA race. He participated in the test sessions held at Daytona last year in hopes of competing in the 2010 season opener. However, he was unable to pull together enough resources in time for the race.
This year Chris Lawson will be in the No. 18 Ideal Steel Custom Flame Cutting Dodge owned by Dave McClure. However, the decision to run the ARCA season opener wasn’t official until two weeks ago. With not having very much time to prepare the car, it has been some very long nights for Lawson at the race shop, even sleeping there on occasion to make the most out of his time.
Having been involved in racing since age 5 and working within the NASCAR circuit since 18, Chris knows quite a bit about the fabrication and set-up of racecars. However, ARCA is a little bit of fresh territory for him. “Every series is a little different, and has its different rules,” Lawson explains. “I have been very fortunate to get some great advice from some of the best in the series the last few weeks.”
Lawson will have his work cut out for him on and off the track this week at Daytona. He will have some tough competition as there are 51 cars on the preliminary entry list for the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200. But off the track he will have the task of playing the crew chief role as well.
“My crew members are pretty limited. It will call for a lot more work on my part, but I can’t complain. It gives me a lot of valuable experience, allows me to identify with the car a lot better, and anticipate the changes that need to be made,” Lawson explained.
Chris Lawson is excited to get on the new pavement at Daytona and excited to have Ideal Steel come on board for the race. Ideal Steel is a family owned business started in Eugene, Oregon that specializes in custom flame cutting and now operates four locations nationwide.
