Kenzie Ruston Makes History at Toledo in ARCA Series Debut
Press Release
Kenzie made ARCA Racing Series history on Sunday by becoming the first female driver to lead laps and finish in the top-10 during her ARCA debut. Although Danica Patrick finished sixth in her 2010 debut at Daytona and Erin Crocker led 28-laps at Kentucky during her 2005 debut, nobody until Kenzie Ruston has been able to accomplish both feats during their inaugural event.
“Kenzie did everything we expected her to do today…she gained a ton of experience and kept the fenders on the car. I’m so proud of what she’s been able to accomplish this weekend and expect her to improve as she gains more experience,” says VMS General Manager, Billy Venturini.
Kenzie made her presence noticed early as she shot her No.25 Melmark Pipe & Supply Toyota to the top of the leader board during Saturday’s practice. Her fast lap of 16.41 held up and was quickest of the session. Unfortunately rain canceled qualifying and any hopes of capturing a pole position.
Kenzie started in 4th position as the field was set by 2010 owner’s points.
Due to rain earlier in the day the race started under caution for the first 20-laps. However once the green flag dropped Kenzie quickly drove her car to the front taking the lead away from Frank Kimmel on just her second lap of ARCA competition. Kenzie would lead 15 laps before getting loose in turn-2 giving up the top spot and falling back into the field going a lap down.
Receiving the lucky dog put Kenzie back on the lead lap where she powered her No.25 Venturini entry back up through the field and into the top-10 where she’s eventually finish.
Kenzie who recently signed a multi-race agreement with Venturini Motorsports will be back behind the wheel at the following events; Berlin Raceway, Lucas Oil Raceway Park and Madison International Speedway. Kenzie currently competes full-time in the PASS South Super Late Model Series. For more information on Kenzie visit www.GoKenzie.com.
