Cornelius, NC - The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards returns to grass roots dirt racing for the second time this season. The competitors will take to the one mile dirt track of the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds for the Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Auto Parts. Frank will try to continue his consistency of 2011, which includes 14 top-10 finishes in 15 starts, counting a 6th last weekend at Madison International Speedway.

Frank Kimmel returns to the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds as a five time winner at the track. However, his success and enjoyment for racing on dirt at DuQuoin didn’t always exist, as Frank’s first few starts were rough and his attitude towards dirt racing was less than joyful.

Frank Kimmel first visited DuQuoin in 1991. It was not a celebrated beginning, as he would start 30th and finish 26th. Yet with every aspect of his racing career the nine time ARCA Racing Series Champion learned to adapt and would eventually finish 4th in his fourth start at the track. From there, Frank has become a regular in the top-10 and a common sight in victory lane. Frank’s first win at DuQuoin was in 2001 and since then he’s tasted victory on four other occasions.

“I didn’t grow up racing on dirt, so when we first started going to DuQuoin it was difficult. I remember thinking, what are we doing racing on dirt. It wasn’t a form of racing I was accustomed to and it took me a while to get the hang of it. It motivated me and it wasn’t long that I looked forward to racing at DuQuoin,” said Frank Kimmel.
