Clint King got to drive on his 16th birthday.

Not for his driver’s license test — that came a few days later.

On Aug. 26 in Madison, Wis., King, a junior at South Davidson High School, became the youngest driver in the history of the ARCA Racing Series to run a race.

And he didn’t just debut. He qualified on the pole and finished third in the Herr’s Life With Flavor! 200.

“It was a pretty cool deal just to be there,” King said Wednesday afternoon at Venturini Motorsports in Concord. “We were really good off the truck. The car was fast.

“But I’m still getting adapted to the race car. Still don’t have a lot of experience in this type of car.”
