Break Up at Kimmel Racing

Advertisment

After months of speculation the break up at Kimmel Racing is on the fast track. Yes, this is the team that has won a ton of ARCA Championships. Driver Frank- has won nine titles and a majority came while his brother, Bill- has been crew chief. It has been a team tough to beat until the past few years. What happened? For starters, NASCAR teams have developed drivers in the ARCA series, but lately with more dollars and more passion. Take this year-Ty Dillion winning the ARCA crown. His grandfather is the great Richard Childress. It costs less money compared to trucks and Nationwide-so ARCA makes sense.

The big change may have happened a few years ago when Frank and Bill Kimmell ran Kimmel Racing but drove that familiar #46 Pork car for Larry Clement who resides in Iowa. The economy hadn’t tanked yet-so the Southern Indiana brothers moved on to try and do their own thing. With little sponsorship-they almost won another title. Then came Menard’s and Ansell -big names, big sponsors, and big dollars. Frank went winless this season-the first time since the mid-nineties. That should not have happened. As a matter of fact-he should have had 5-6 wins and easily by now could have been the all time driver with the most wins in ARCA. Didn’t happen. So, what went wrong. - Louisville Courier-Journal
