Brian Scott / Joe Gibbs Racing Daytona International Speedway Post Race Report
Press Release
DRIVE4COPD 300 at Daytona International Speedway
February 19, 2011
Race Highlights:
· Brian Scott made his first start for Joe Gibbs Racing in the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday in the DRIVE4COPD 300.
· Scott qualified the No. 11 Toyota in the 11th position on Saturday, his best start at the 2.5-mile track.
· The No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota was sent into a spin on lap 15 after being hit in the right rear by the No. 31 car of Justin Allgaier. Crew chief Kevin Kidd and the Joe Gibbs Racing team members were able to repair the severely damaged car, including replacing the radiator, in just 47 laps to get Scott back onto the track to finish the 120-lap event in the 34th position.
· Immediately following the incident, Scott was scored in the 42nd position. The team picked up eight spots by feverishly repairing the car to finish 34th and gaining an additional eight championship points.
· There were five cautions for 23 laps in the race with 12 cars finishing on the lead lap. Two-time Sprint Cup Series Champion Tony Stewart won the event. Scott’s teammates Kyle Busch and Joey Logano finished seventh and 12th respectively.
· Scott now sits 23rd in the NASCAR Nationwide Series standings following his finish at Daytona and sits 31 points behind current leader Landon Cassill.
Scott Quotes:
“I don’t know what happened there to be honest. I could’ve been the cause of it. I had the 31 of Justin Allgaier pushing me and he just had me out of control. I tried to radio my spotter to tell him to back off. We came out of turn one and the No. 60 came down and things just happened. I know the wreck started, I kind of got loose, saved it and had it going straight again. I was just trying to miss everything and I didn’t see the No. 12 (Sam Hornish) coming through the grass back on the race track and ended up centering him.
“It’s just really unfortunate. These guys obviously put a lot of work in over the offseason on our Shore Lodge Toyota and it’s not the way that anybody wants to start off the season. We salvaged what we could to make the most of it.”
