Race 2 of 34: BASHAS’ SUPERMARKETS 200 at Phoenix International Raceway

Event Info: Saturday, February 26, 2011, ESPN 2, 5:30PM

Desert delight…Kenny Wallace travels to Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) this week with RAB Racing with Brack Maggard to compete in the second race of the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS), the Bashas’ Supermarkets 200. Wallace returns to pilot the No. 09 Toyota Camry with a new look at Phoenix featuring a new primary race sponsor, Family Farmers.  Phoenix will be the first of five scheduled NNS races during the 2011 season for the Illinois-based sponsor.  After an eventful Daytona NNS race filled with lead changes and high speeds, Wallace looks forward to some short track racing at PIR.

Keeping tabs… The No. 09 UNOH Toyota Camry ended the day 28th after being involved in the second caution of the 120-lap event on lap 25. Wallace and the RAB Racing team did not have the finish they had hoped for in the season-opening NNS race at Daytona International Speedway, but they saw a promising signs of what’s to come in the 2011 season as the young team rallied to make repairs throughout the race. Currently Kenny Wallace is 19th in the NNS Driver Standings.

Phoenix details…

·         Wallace competed in his first NASCAR Nationwide Series race at PIR on November 6, 1999, where he started 11th and finished 5th.

·         In the top-three NASCAR divisions, Wallace has 33 total starts – 15 each in the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series, and three starts in the Camping World Truck Series.

·         RAB Racing with Brack Maggard will make its sixth start at PIR in the Nationwide Series. RAB Racing recorded its first start at PIR in November 2008.

·         The No. 09 Toyota Camry will feature a new paint scheme representing primary race sponsor, Family Farmers.

Get familiar with Family Farmers… A multi-state coalition of farmers and agribusiness,

participants in the Family Farmer coalition to date include the Illinois Corn Marketing Board (ICMB), the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA), the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council (MCMC), and Marquis Energy. In addition to the farmer organizations involved, Marquis Energy, one of the Midwest’s leading producers of environmentally friendly energy, chose to join in the partnership with Wallace as a spokesperson for family farmers and renewable fuels, including ethanol.

“We know that Kenny is a strong driver and he has a fast car in the RAB Racing No. 09 Toyota Camry,” stated Scott Stirling, ICMB Chairman and family farmer from Martinton, Ill. “But even better than that, he has proven to be a strong advocate for family farmers with a voice that is recognized and respected. Phoenix is a long way from Illinois, but we know that farmers and ranchers all over the country hold the same values:  family, pride in their country, and pride in what they do.”

Look forward to getting true knowledge from Kenny Wallace throughout the 2011 season on SPEED/ESPN2, Twitter and Facebook.
