A Broken Bone and a Birthday Party during Series’ First Off-Weekend
After only being home two days following the series’ stop at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Eric McClure, while helping his wife plan for their oldest daughter’s fourth birthday party on Saturday, slipped on the decorations in the kitchen floor.š The result…a broken bone below his “pinkie” knuckle on his right hand.š Although he is in a cast, not only did the birthday party go on without a hitch, McClure has been cleared to race and plans to compete in Saturday’s Scotts EZ Seed 300.š
In the event that a relief driver is needed during the weekend, former Nationwide Series Champion Jeff Green will be on standby.
Home Track for McClure
Saturday’s event will mark the Virginia driver’s 141st career start and his tenth at the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile”.š McClure’s last visit to the speedway was forgettable, resulting in two wrecked cars, a DNS, and a concussion.
In nine events, McClure has a best start of 28th (2008/2009) and a best finish of 24th (March 2010).
This weekend TriStar Motorsports will utilize chassis No 5. It was previously used at Phoenix International Raceway where McClure finished in the 25th position.
For a third consecutive year, Food City will serve as an associate sponsor on McClure’s entry. Headquartered in Abingdon, Virginia, K-VA-T Food Store operates food outlets throughout the tri-state regions of Southwest Virginia, Southeast Kentucky and Northeast Tennessee.
Leading up to Saturday’s race the 32-year-old driver will be making special appearances at both Food City Family Race Nights.š One is held on Thursday, March 17 (6pm – 8pm) at the Expo Center in Knoxville, TN and the other on Friday, March 18 (6pm – 8pm) at Bristol Motor Speedway.

“I am looking forward to this weekend’s race, although the circumstances are not ideal. It’s definitely going to be interesting to say the least.š I will have a driver standby but my intentions are to go and get the best finish possible.š A lot of guys have driven with worse issues so we’ll tough it out.š But we have a team-first attitude so we’ll see how it goes.”
