No. 31 Florida Gulf Safe Chevrolet News and Notes

Turner Motorsports Welcomes Aboard Florida Gulf Safe… Turner Motorsports is pleased to announce Florida Gulf Safe as primary sponsor on Justin Allgaier’s No. 31 Chevrolet Impala this weekend at Road America. A campaign launched by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to combat the low consumer confidence in Florida’s Gulf seafood, the ‘Florida Gulf Safe’ sticker can be found on seafood to emphasize the safety and availability of Florida seafood harvested from the Gulf.

Allgaier Heads to America’s Dairyland Fourth in Points… Allgaier remained in fourth-place in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) championship point standings, just 17 points behind leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr. after the race at Michigan International Speedway. All three championship contending Turner Motorsports drivers are currently in the top-five, with Reed Sorenson in third and Jason Leffler tied for fifth-place.

Road America by the Numbers… The 25-year-old Florida Gulf Safe Chevy driver has one NNS start at Road America. In last year’s inaugural NNS event at the 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course he started 18th and finished 35th after suffering a mechanical issue early in the race.

This Week’s Impala… The No. 31 Chevy team will hit the track with chassis TMS-302 this weekend at Road America. This is a brand new chassis for the No. 31 team.

Getting the Lay of the Land – Last week, Allgaier joined teammates Ricky Carmichael and Reed Sorenson at Road America to drive Mazda sports cars around the track with Chris Cook. While Mazda cars are very different than the NNS cars drivers will pilot this weekend, the experience allowed the Turner Motorsports drivers to get a feel for the course, as two of the three drivers had yet to see it.

In the Loop… Thus far in 2011, Allgaier ranks among the top-10 in several of NASCAR’s Loop Data statistics: Closers (1st), Percentage of Laps Run on the Lead Lap (5th), Fastest on Restarts (6th), Laps in the Top-15 (6th), Average Running Position (7th), Fastest Speed in Traffic (9th), Quality Passes (9th), Fastest Early in the Run (9th), Fastest Late in the Run (10th) and Green Flag Speed (10th).

Justin Allgaier on Road America:

“It’s always interesting to head to a road course. I enjoy the challenge and the change that they bring to the summer schedule of our sport. Having run Road America last year I’m familiar with the track and have a mindset going into the race. I hope to continue our strong run this season and improve on my numbers at this track.”
