Race 17 of 34: Subway Jalapeno 250 at Daytona International Speedway
Event Info: Friday, July 1, 2011, live coverage begins at 7:30PM EST on ESPN and MRN
What Goes Around… Traveling south to Daytona International Speedway this week for the second and final time during the 2011 season, Kenny Wallace will get another shot at victory in the No. 09 G-OIL Toyota Camry when he suits up for Friday night’s Subway Jalapeno 250. With 16 races under his belt, Wallace and RAB Racing with Brack Maggard have continued to mesh and find momentum as the NASCAR Nationwide Series hits the half-way point with 17 events remaining after Daytona. Coming back to where it all started will give Wallace another chance to add to the accomplishments tallied thus far in the season, including five top-10 and 13 top-20 finishes.
Keeping Tabs… Last Saturday at Road America Wallace proved he could turn right just as well as he could turn left in the Nationwide Series’ first of three road course races this year. Starting 16th and quickly finding a place solidly inside the top-10, Wallace and the RAB Racing team soon found themselves battling not only the other competitors but also fighting mechanical issues on the No. 09. Forced to make a stop in the garage area, Wallace was able to get back on track but ultimately finished the day 28th. Wallace remains in seventh in the driver point standings, while the No. 09 currently resides 15th in the NNS driver point standings. The Nationwide Series will follow-up Daytona’s Subway Jalapeno 250 with another dose of Friday night racing next week at Kentucky Speedway for the Feed the Children 300.
Daytona Details…
· Wallace will be making his 23rd Nationwide Series career-start on Friday night at Daytona International Speedway.
· In addition to one pole, two top-5 and eight top-10 finishes in his Nationwide Series career, Wallace also has 19 Sprint Cup Series starts at the 2.5-mile tri-oval track.
· RAB Racing will make its sixth start at Daytona since joining NASCAR’s junior division. In five starts, RAB Racing earned its best finish of 15th in the 2010 season-opener with driver Scott Riggs.
The “fans” have spoken… Wallace will drive the No. 09 Toyota Camry supported by fans from around the world in October’s Nationwide Series event at Charlotte Motor Speedway. For $20, fans can get their name on Wallace’s No. 09 RAB Racing Toyota Camry and receive a postcard. In addition to fan support, the University of Northwestern Ohio will be featured on the hood for the memorable event. For more information, please visit www.kennywallace.com.
Get Going with G-OIL… The RAB Racing Toyota Camry will be “going green” Friday night as Green Earth Technologies (GET) and its G-OIL brand return to sponsor the No. 09 for the second time during 2011. Sporting a new green and white paint scheme, G-OIL will once again be featured on the hood, side panels and deck lid of the RAB Camry driven by Wallace. GET and G-OIL joined other environmentally-friendly companies working with RAB Racing in May for the Dover International Speedway Nationwide Series event. G-OIL will return two more times in 2011 for the Atlanta Motor Speedway on September 3 and Texas Motor Speedway on November 5.
