Brian Scott Post-Race Recap

Federated Auto Parts 300 at Nashville Superspeedway

July 23, 2011

Race Highlights:

- Brian Scott and the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota Team earned the 10th-place starting position for the Federated Auto Parts 300 during the qualifying session that took place on Saturday at Nashville Superspeedway only hours before the start of the race.

- Loose-handling conditions plagued Scott early in the event at Nashville as he reported a lack of grip that kept him from being aggressive. Scott tried different grooves around the track in an effort to alleviate the loose-handling issue until he had an opportunity to pit.

- Track bar and air pressure adjustments were used to try and correct the handling on the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota but the loose-handling issue persisted through the halfway point in the race. Scott would lose a lap to the race leaders while battling the loose issues.

- As the race continued the team had more opportunities to fix the loose-handling issue on the Shore Lodge Toyota. The handling on the car eventually came around and Scott had the fastest car on the track at various stages in the race. Scott would find himself in the “Lucky Dog” position a couple of times while the field was in the midst of a long, green-flag run. Another lead-lap car however would end up lapped before the caution would come out which prevented the No. 11 Shore Lodge team from earning a spot back on the lead lap. Scott eventually finished the race in 17th position.

- Carl Edwards went on to score the win on Saturday night to make it a sweep of the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series events at Nashville Superspeedway.
Scott’s Joe Gibbs Racing teammate for the weekend Drew Herring earned a seventh-place finish.

- Scott is in 10th place in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver point standings following the event in Nashville. He is 13 points out of eighth place points and 21 points out of seventh place. Reed Sorenson took over the top spot in the championship point standings. He owns a five-point lead ahead of Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Scott Quotes:

“That was a hard fought race. It seemed like a lot of cars were struggling to find grip. We worked hard all night to get the car better and we finally got it a lot closer to where we needed to be but we just ran out of time. We were in position to get the lucky dog a couple of times but things never fell our way at the right time. I can’t say enough about how hard all the guys on this Shore Lodge Toyota team worked all weekend under some pretty tough conditions. They did a great job and I can’t thank them enough for their efforts.”
