Kenny Wallace Continues Top-10 Streak At Nashville Superspeedway
Press ReleaseCONCORD, N.C. (July 25, 2011) – A trip back to Nashville Superspeedway last weekend proved to be music to his ears, as Kenny Wallace drove the No. 09 Federated Auto Parts Toyota Camry to a 10th-place finish Saturday night in the Federated Auto Parts 300. The finish was the fourth consecutive top-10 finish for Wallace driving for RAB Racing with Brack Maggard this season, and the ninth overall top-10 finish of 2011.
In April earlier this year, Wallace and RAB Racing put together one of their most solid performances of the year, starting 11th and finishing 12th. The second time around proved that the combination of Wallace and the No. 09 Federated Auto Parts team, led by crew chief Scott Zipadelli, are finding their groove after posting top-10 finishes in each of the four July NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) events. After two Friday practice sessions, Wallace placed inside the top-10 on the speed charts, taking the seventh and fifth spots, respectively.
During Saturday afternoon’s qualifying session, Wallace made two laps around the 1.333-mile track, quick enough to pick up the ninth starting position for the Federated Auto Parts 300. When the race got underway later in the day, Wallace was shuffled back to the 12th position, but stayed solidly inside the top-15 through the first 50 laps of green flag racing. Wallace successfully made his first trip down pit road under green flag racing conditions several laps before the first caution waved for debris in turn three on lap 83.
Green flag racing resumed on lap 86, and the field continued to race without incident until lap 129 when the second caution flag waved. Wallace, who was the first car one lap down, benefitted from the backstretch accident by being, awarded the “Aaron’s Lucky Dog” pass, and putting the No. 09 Federated Auto Parts Camry back on the lead lap in the tenth position. The field would face only one more caution on the night during laps 178-183, with Wallace running in the top-12 throughout the final 40 laps. Wallace would hang on to his July hot streak by taking 10th-place and earning RAB Racing its best-finish to date at Nashville Superspeedway.
Wallace remains in the seventh position in the NNS driver point standings, however, the top-10 finishes narrowed the gap to within three points of the sixth position, and less than 20 points from fifth place in the driver championship standings. The No. 09 occupies the 13th position in the NNS owner point standings.
The Nationwide Series will close out the month of July at the newly-minted Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis with the Kroger 200 Saturday night, July 30th. Live coverage of the NNS event begins at 7:00PM EST on ESPN.
