Brian Scott Post-Race Recap

Kroger 200 at Lucas Oil Raceway

July 30, 2011

Race Highlights:

- Brian Scott and the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota Team got off to a great start on Saturday afternoon after picking up the sixth starting spot during NASCAR Nationwide Series qualifying for the Kroger 200 at Lucas Oil Raceway.

- Scott lacked right-rear grip from the drop of the green flag which kept him from being able to get back into the gas like he needed at the exit of the turns. Despite the issue, Scott stayed in the top 10 through the first 47 laps of the race when the first caution waved giving the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota team a chance to work on the car’s handling. Air pressure adjustments, chassis adjustments, four tires and fuel made up the stop which put Scott in the ninth position when racing resumed at lap 53.

- The handling on the Shore Lodge car didn’t improve much during the course of the next 50-plus circuits around the track. Scott had dropped to the 12th position by the second caution period at lap 113 during which time the team took another massive swing at adjustments to try to make the car better. Quick pit work put the Shore Lodge Toyota in 10th place when racing resumed at lap 120.

- A series of cautions would take place during the course of the final 25 laps. Scott made a stop for right-side tires only during the third caution at lap 176. Unfortunately, Scott was tabbed for speeding at the exit of pit road and was forced to start at the tail end of the longest line as a penalty. The team had Scott come to pit road for left-side tires, giving the driver four new tires when racing resumed at lap 183 with the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota in 15th place.

- Two more cautions would slow the race with the final caution coming out and forcing an over-time finish for the Kroger 200. Scott was up to the 13th position by the time the green-white-checkered flag finale commenced. As the field came round turns three and four to take the white flag, Scott collided with his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Drew Herring and did a 360 along the frontstretch. He was able to get the car going and finish the race in the 15th position.

- Herring went on to finish the race in eighth place while Scott’s other Joe Gibbs Racing teammate for the weekend Michael McDowell finished 10th.
Scott did move up a position in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver point standings following the event in Indianapolis. He is six points out of eighth place. Ricky Stenhouse took over the top spot in the championship point standings. He owns a three-point lead ahead of Reed Sorenson.
