Kenny Wallace Finishes 32nd After Overheating Woes At Watkins Glen International
Press ReleaseRAB Racing and Wallace have been riding high on a string of solid finishes this summer and the team looked towards The Glen as another opportunity to prove what the young team is made of. Wallace powered the No. 09 Upstate New York Toyota Dealers Toyota Camry to an 18th place starting position in qualifying after a successful practice session on Saturday.
Wallace held his position around 20th throughout much of the day, praising his car’s speed and handling. But the good luck wouldn’t last and the car began to overheat around Lap 60. The call was made to remain on the track in an attempt to nurse it until the end of the race. The team eventually had to bring the car behind the wall and discovered that the damage was irreversible.
RAB Racing and Wallace are optimistic about their upcoming races. Wallace remains at 7th in the driver points standings and sits first on the list of most laps completed this season (99.11 %). The No. 09, owned by Robby Benton, is currently 13th in the NNS owner point standings.
We will head further north this weekend as the NASCAR Nationwide Series travels to Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Saturday, August 21st. The No. 09 team will tough it out for over 200 miles in the NAPA Auto Parts 200. Live coverage begins at 2:30PM EST on ESPN and 2:00PM EST on MRN.
