Brian Scott Post-Race Recap

NAPA Auto Care 200 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve

August 20, 2011

Race Highlights:

· Brian Scott and the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota team picked up the 19th starting spot for the NAPA Auto Care 200 at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Friday afternoon. Following his qualifying run, Scott reported that the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota was just a bit tight at various points on the 2.709-mile course but that he felt like the team had a good car for the 200-mile race on Saturday.

· The Shore Lodge Toyota team went into the race on Saturday with a definitive race strategy in which they hoped to run the race with only two stops on pit road. Scott had steadily picked up positions in the early stages of the race and was up to 11th place by the time crew chief Kevin Kidd called him to pit road for four tires and fuel at lap nine during green-flag conditions. The team was tagged with a penalty as Scott exited pit road, charged with not exercising proper blend procedures while climbing back to the track. As such, Scott had to make a pass-through on pit road to fulfill the penalty.

· The first caution of the race waved at lap 14 for an accident that Scott just missed. He was in 25th position so he came to pit road for fuel only. Scott was in 23rd place when green-flag racing resumed at lap 18.

· In an effort to make the finish the race with only one more stop, Kidd called Scott to pit road for another fuel-only stop at lap 28. From that moment on, Scott once again made steady progress to the front of the field, climbing to 21st place by lap 30 and 14th place by lap 36.

· The team made its final pit stop of the race during the third caution at lap 51 for four tires and fuel. Scott was in 15th place for the restart at lap 55.

· The race would be slowed by caution three more times. Scott continued to climb the leader board throughout the final 20 laps of the race, breaking into the top 10 at lap 60. Scott had the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota in fifth place for the final restart of the race at lap 72. As the cars made the final turn to head to the checkered flag, Scott was punted by driver Justin Allgaier and ended up finishing the race in 12th place.

· Scott remains ninth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver standings following his 12th-place finish in Montreal. He is 18 points behind Steven Wallace in eighth place. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. remains in the top spot in the standings, eight points in front of Elliott Sadler in second.
