Boise State will have its presence in a whole new competitive venue.

Brian Scott, a NASCAR Nationwide Series driver born and raised in Boise, will sport a Boise State-themed design on his No. 11 Toyota at the Sept. 3 Great Clips 300 in Atlanta. Bronco football coach Chris Petersen recently heard about the plans, and when asked about it Wednesday, he perked up.

“When I saw they were putting Kellen (Moore)’s number on the car — he’s actually No. 11 — that’s perfect karma,” Petersen said.

Scott has three top-10 finishes this season in 24 races. The Sept. 3 race will take place in Atlanta, the same city where Petersen’s Broncos will be playing Georgia. He hopes the new eyes on the Boise State car will help draw in new interest, but also to get more fans Scott’s way.

“I hope we get the name out there for the Scotts out there as well … I hope ESPN is cutting back and forth,” Petersen said.

Petersen, who has flown with the Blue Angels, wasn’t too keen on hopping into a race car, however.
