Brian Scott, No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota Camry Richmond International Raceway Post Race Report
Press Release
Virginia 529 College Savings at Richmond International Raceway
September 9, 2011
Race Highlights:
* Brian Scott was hoping to improve upon his 15th-place finish from the spring race at Richmond International Raceway on Friday night when he qualified for the event in the 12th position. It was Scott’s fifth start at the Virginia short track.
* The first run of the night in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race was a long green-flag run. Scott was having trouble getting the car to turn through the corners and was sitting in the 15th position when the first yellow flag of the day finally waved on lap 67. He brought the Shore Lodge Toyota down to the attention of the No. 11 pit crew for a chassis adjustment, fresh tires and fuel. The quick stop by the team moved him up two spots for the restart on lap 78,
* Scott continued to struggle rolling through the center of the corners and was working with his spotter Tim Fedewa on different lines and entry points. He began running more competitive laps and was 12th when the yellow flag was displayed on lap 139. Scott told crew chief Kevin Kidd he “fixed about 30 percent of the condition,” so the pit crew put a spring rubber in the right rear and made another chassis adjustment in addition to changing four tires and packing the car full of fuel. Unfortunately, Scott never got to see how much the changes would help. Racing resumed on lap 145 and Scott was hit from behind by the No. 88 car one lap later and sent into the wall. The team was unable to repair the car which resulted in a 32nd-place finish. Scott’s Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Kyle Busch and Ryan Truex finished first and fourth respectively.
* Scott sits 10th in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver standings following his 32nd-place finish in Richmond. He is eight points behind Michael Annett in ninth place. Ricky Stenhouse Jr continues to lead the standings, 16 points in front of Elliott Sadler in second.

What happened to take you out of the race?
“I just got turned by the 88 (Aric Almirola) getting into turn 3. We were having a rough night. We didn’t have our No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota where we wanted it. The guys were doing an awesome job in the pits, gaining me positions and keeping us in the game. We were making adjustments and it was going to be a night we had to battle. Kevin (Kidd, crew chief) was making good adjustments, we were starting to hit on it and unfortunately we’re didn’t get to see how our night would have went.”
Are you upset with Aric Almirola after the contact?
“Yes I’m upset. He (Aric Almirola) ran into the back of me a couple of times on restarts. Bristol comes to mind. I don’t know what it is, but when you turn somebody before you get into the corner; you hit the outside wall pretty hard. It was a tough hit and killed our car.”
