Brian Scott Post-Race Recap

OneMain Financial 200 at Dover International Speedway

May 14, 2011

Race Highlights:

- Brian Scott picked up the 11th starting spot behind the wheel of the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota during NASCAR Nationwide Series qualifying for the OneMain Financial 200 at Dover International Speedway earlier on Saturday.

- Scott battled a loose-handling condition on the Shore Lodge Toyota from the drop of the green flag, dropping back several spots to the 19th position by lap 10 of the race. Scott adjusted his line on the track and was able to reclaim some of the lost positions, climbing back to the 14th position by the time NASCAR displayed a competition caution at lap 40. Crew chief Kevin Kidd called for a track bar adjustment, four tires and fuel during the pit stop and Scott was in 13th place when racing resumed at lap 46.

- The improvement in the Shore Lodge Toyota was evident immediately with Scott reporting that “the car’s better” at lap 54. He was up to 11th place when the third caution of the race waved at lap 79 for debris. The team made another slight track bar adjustment during the pit stop. Quick work by the Shore Lodge Toyota Team place Scott in the seventh position when green-flag racing resumed at lap 83.

- Scott competed between the seventh and eighth positions during the next 75 laps until green-flag pit stops started taking place. Kidd called Scott to pit road for what would be the last stop of the race. The No. 11 team was stationed in the 43rd pit stall. As Scott started making his way to pit road, he locked the brakes up on the Shore Lodge Toyota. In an effort to keep from hitting the car of Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., who was also making a pit stop, Scott tried to take the Shore Lodge Toyota back on the track. He made contact with the water barrels at the entrance to pit road, bringing out the fourth caution of the race.

- The team assessed the damage, made repairs and adjustments, changed four tires and added fuel before sending the Shore Lodge Toyota back on the track. The damage was only cosmetic and Scott was able to stay on the lead lap courtesy of the wave around. He restated the race from the 11th position and maintained the spot to finish the race in 11th place. Scott’s Joe Gibbs Racing Teammates Ryan Truex and Joey Logano finished eighth and 12th, respectively.

- Scott continues to maintain ninth place in the driver point standings. He is four points behind Steven Wallace in eighth place. Ricky Stenhouse extended his lead in the driver point standings and now has a 22-point lead on Elliott Sadler who still sits in second place.

Scott Quotes:

How was your race?

“We had a really fast No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota. We needed a couple pit stops to make it better and the guys did exactly that – we got it better. We fought never having track position all day, but a couple long, green-flag runs and some killer pit stops by our guys put us up there in the mix. I think we got in the sixth, seventh range like that coming to green flag stops. I just came in a little hot and couldn’t get it slowed down without locking the front brakes up. We hit a water barrel and went a lap down because of that, got the wave around and then we just fought track position. We were fast but we had to deal with cars that were two laps down, cars that we hadn’t raced all day that were a lap down that had then caught back up with us because of our incident. It’s unfortunate that what should have been a top-10 day easily, possibly a top-five day, now we finished 11th.”
