Andrew Smith South Boston Speedway Post Race Report
Press Release
Smith’s SavannahPawn.com / Kid’s Charity of Tampa Bay Chevrolet was 10th fastest in the limited practice session on Sunday. Crew chief, Ryan Farbo made a few minor changes to the car before sending Smith out to post the eighth fastest qualifying time of the day, his best of the season.
Smith raced in the top eight positions all day and never lost sight of the leaders as the tight 4/10-mile paved oval kept the field bunched tightly together all day. His finish was also rewarded with the Sunoco Rookie of the Race Award.
“We were tucked in there with all the Cup and Diversity teams around us all day,” laughed Smith. “So I felt really good about the car throughout the race,” he said. “This is just one of those places where it’s fast-paced all day, it’s hard to pass, and being cautiously aggressive really pays off. This young team is coming together and we improved our finish over the last race. That was our goal coming in so I’m really proud of all these guys.”
The Series heads back to Virginia on April 28th for the running of the Blue Ox 100 at the Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, VA.
“Having the opportunity to race at premier facilities like Richmond in front of all the Nationwide and Sprint Cup team owners is a great opportunity for all of us,” Smith added. “So we’ll take our seventh place finish and move on to Richmond and try to improve even more.”
