Baldwin Park, CA (April 17, 2001) – Arriving for his third race of the season, young Position One Motorsports rookie driver Taylor Miinch was looking to use the experience gained at his debut event 2 weeks ago. Coming into this weekend, Miinch had momentum on his side as he was still basking in his ASA Truck Series win last weekend at the Havasu 95 Speedway. Looking for another top-10 finish, Miinch and his Position One Motorsports team had high expectations coming into today’s race.

With temperatures reaching the mid 90 degree range, Miinch took the No 03 Position One Motorsports entry for qualifying and propelled the car around the 1/2 mile track, squeezing all of its potential. The result of his 2-lap effort was a solid P6. Unsatisfied with the car, Miinch and crew conferred and decided that more adjustments were needed for the car. Rules dictate that any changes made to the car after qualifying would negate the best qualifying time. The decision would relegate Miinch to an 11th place starting position.

Miinch took the green flag in the 11th spot, among a field of 24 drivers and immediately gained a position. The 16 year old avoided getting caught up in the race’s first incident on lap #10. When the dust settled, Miinch was in the 7th spot and his pace continued to get stronger. By lap # 25 he was comfortably in 6th. Four laps later he furthered himself even more and now was fighting for the 4th spot alongside the # 90 of Toni McCray and the #20 of Chris Johnson. While in the fight, Miinch was simultaneously dealing with a hood that was folded, which occurred after the last restart. Even with the disadvantage, Minch was able to hang in and finish the race in the 6th spot. This is Miinch’s second top-10 finish of the season.

Miinch returns for Late Model competition in 2 weeks on April 30th for the third race of the season.

Taylor Miinch, Driver No. 03 – “I know we’re getting better with each race. The team is gelling and I’m learning after every race. I need to improve on my restarts and I know we are going to be contenders! A big thanks goes to everyone who made this possible, including my crew, my family and King Taco.”

John Schuetze, Crew Chief No. 03 – “Taylor’s is getting better every weekend. We had an issue with the restart but he recovered and we were able to have a very good result in the end. It’s going to take seat time for him to build the experience and confidence one needs to be successful at this track, but he is very capable. You don’t come to this track and get 2 top-10s in your first races if you don’t have what it takes to eventually win, so I’m confident in his abilities.”
