NEWTON, IA (May 21, 2011) — Andrew Smith raced to a hard-fought 23rd place finish in the Pork ‘Be Inspired’ 175 presented by Tompkins Industries NASCAR K&N Pro Series combination event at Iowa Speedway Saturday night before an announced crowd of 17,281.

Smith started 43rd and worked his way quickly up through the field. “I really had to make some aggressive moves on the restarts,” Smith said after the race. “This race was great because of the East and West Series teams all running together in one event. It was a tough field of competitors and we put on a great show for this big crowd tonight.”

“I want to say a huge thanks to Ryan Farbo and all my crew guys,” Smith said. “Everyone did a great job considering this was their first time to actually perform a pit stop during competition. I was pleased with an 18-second stop from a bunch of first-timers.”

“We burned a spark plug wire during practice and didn’t realize it until I went out to qualify. There was nothing we could do but the guys worked real hard trying to figure it out. We’re not happy with 23rd but I drove it as hard as I could,” he said.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will make its next stop at the historic Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston Salem, NC on June 4th.
