No. 00 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota

Gresham Motorsports Park

CORNELIUS, N.C. — No. 00 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota driver Brett Moffitt races Saturday at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Ga. The 18-year-old driver visited the 1/2-mile oval in January during teammate Travis Pastrana’s test at the track. Moffitt, a Grimes, Iowa native, ranks fourth in the K&N Pro Series East standings, trailing the series leader by 34 points. Moffitt earned victories at Greenville-Pickens and Iowa Speedways in 2011 leading 355 of 720 laps this season.

In addition to working with Pastrana, Moffitt has also received advice on his driving career from owner, Michael Waltrip. Waltrip a two-time Daytona 500 winner is currently racing in the 79th Le Mans 24 Hours with Michael Waltrip Racing co-owner Rob Kauffman.

GRESHAM MOTORSPORTS PARK: “I had a little bit of bad luck running at Gresham last year but we still ran strong so I’m looking forward to going back there with these guys and hopefully getting back into victory lane. I haven’t had an opportunity to test at Gresham this year, but earlier in the season I went down with Travis (Pastrana) and helped him with some different lines. It gave me a chance to see the track again, and see how it was running. It’s a fast track and you can actually carry a lot more speed than what you think going into the corners. It is something that normally where you are on the brake for a track that size, there you just kind of roll out of the gas and let the car roll to the middle. It’s a very fun, fast track and there is going to be a lot of action for the fans.”

HALFWAY—SIX TO GO: “Gresham is the halfway point in the season. We have had our ups and downs this season. Our team has been running strong, but after Bowman Gray we fell back to fourth in the standings, 34 points out of the lead so we are going to try to gain that back this weekend at Gresham. That’s what we are looking forward to this weekend.”

MICHAEL WALTRIP: “Having an owner that does just about everything is really cool to learn from. He goes from writing a book, to winning at Daytona, and now he is in Le Mans. I want to wish him and Rob (Kauffman) good luck on that and I hope their adventure is safe and that they come out victorious.”

NOTES
