Cornelius, NC (June 8, 2011) Gaunt Brothers Racing (GBR) announced today that it will enter this weekend’s Slack Auto Parts 150 NASCAR K&N Pro Series race at the Gresham Motorsports Park with young rookie driver Alex Bowman.

Bowman, 18, and currently sixth overall in K&N East Series points, will be making his sixth career NASCAR start and first in the No.75 GBR Toyota Camry. He is leading the rookie standings with two top-5 finishes in his first five races.

“We’re excited to have the opportunity to run Alex at Gresham,” said team owner Marty Gaunt. “We started this team with an eye towards helping develop young talent and Alex certainly fits that model. GBR opened the season with Jason (Bowles) behind the wheel and winning at Irwindale – now he’s going to be running races in the Nationwide series with Rusty Wallace’s team. That’s what we want to see.”

Bowman’s racing background comes mainly in USAC midgets and has recorded more than 150 main event wins, 14 track titles and six national titles in Quarter Midgets. In 2009, he was the national Midget Driver of the Year.

“Coming to this race with GBR, I’m happy for the opportunity and really looking to contend for a win,” Bowman said. “I tested in Gresham last month; it’s a fun track to drive – there’s a lot more grip than you think. You can really drive the car hard and have it stay underneath you.”

GBR will be entering its fourth K&N Pro event of 2011. In the three previous, all with Bowles, the team has one top-5 and two top-10 finishes including the win in the season-opening NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown at Irwindale.
