Thursday
“Rowdy” Wins Again At Berlin Raceway
Press Release
After the rain, which delayed the event a day, finally cleared and the sun came out early Wednesday afternoon, the field was given 15 minutes of extra practice before qualifying. Busch posted the top time qualifying time, touring the 7/16-mile paved oval in 16.06 seconds. The top seven qualifiers were inverted to start the race, placing the defending race winner in the seventh spot for the start of the race.
After the green flag dropped, the Las Vegas native quickly maneuvered his way into the top three. Busch made his way into the third spot on lap nine, but the top two cars had already checked out on the field. He slowly reeled in the leaders, taking over second on lap 65 and taking the lead for the first time on lap 105. The No. 51 Flexco Camry remained in the top spot when a scheduled 15-minute break occurred on lap 125.
After the break, Busch got a solid restart and continued to pace the field in the early stages of the second half of the race. He surrendered the lead to John Van Doorn on lap 172, but regained the top spot on lap 192. The No. 51 Flexco Camry would remain on point for the final 59 laps of the race.
Busch’s teammate Brian Ickler had a solid run in the No. 5 Kyle Busch Motorsports Camry. Ickler, who started the race from the 12th spot, ran in the top 10 for the majority of the race and despite suffering heavy damage during an accident that brought out the red flag on lap 158, the California native battled back to a sixth-place finish.
