Mooresville, NC (June 28, 2011) — With no rain in sight for the first time in four trips to the race track, Cory Joyce was able to put his No. 33 Chevy Impala to work at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Virginia on Saturday night. Competing amongst heavy-hitting, national late model drivers for two 100-lap features, Joyce and his Cory Joyce Racing (CJR) crew made steady improvements as the night wore on. Struggling with the handling through the first main event, Joyce and crew chief Chuck Meyers put their heads together for the second round of battle and came out with a setup that assisted the 19-year-old to an 11th place finish.

Landing 18th on the qualifying charts for the first race, Joyce fought an extremely loose racecar on a slick track for the entirety of the first event. Crew chief Meyers knew the track would eventually cool down, but made some adjustments with the help of Cory and his crew to tighten up the No. 33 machine.
Collecting his focus for the second round of on-track competition, Joyce began the second of the Twin 100′s in the 16th spot. Still fighting the track conditions and the handling of his Impala, Cory fell one lap down to the leaders during a long stretch of green flag racing. Fortunately, Joyce was awarded the “lucky dog” during a caution period shortly after and was placed back on the lead lap. Meyers brought his driver down pit road for some final adjustments, helping Cory battle his way back towards the top-10. A near miss with the No. 15 of Jamie Byrd during some close racing with less than 10 laps remaining presented one final challenge for Joyce, which he was able to overcome as he passed Byrd with two laps remaining to finish 11th.

“We didn’t have a great car during the first segment and chased the racetrack, but we all worked really hard and made a lot of adjustments to get better in between races,” Chuck Meyers said following the Twin 100′s. “The car still wasn’t perfect in the second segment, but Cory drove his tail off to get to the front and got a good finish.”

Gaining a lot of valuable experience with the other drivers on the track, Joyce was pleased with the results and is looking forward to getting back to the shop to make some improvements to his car.

“I really wanted to take this race at Motor Mile and try some new setups and lines on the race track. We made a lot of changes in the off season and during the few practice sessions we had so far this year, so it was good to get a feel for what we have,” Joyce commented following his long night of racing. “I want to thank Motor Mile Speedway for organizing and hosting such a professional event. I had a great time racing with the other competitors in the field and I’m happy we came home in one piece with a good finish.”

The next outing for Joyce is tentatively scheduled for the last weekend in July. Stay tuned to CoryJoyce.com , the Cory Joyce Fan Page on Facebook, and @CoryJoyceRacing on Twitter for updates.
