Andy Loden Comes One Spot Short of Sweeping South Boston Events in PASS South Competition

Stanley, NC 8/22/11- PASS South super late model championship contender, Andy Loden, came just one spot short of making it a sweep at the South Boston Speedway in 2011. After qualifying sixth and then leading the field on several different occasions throughout the 150 lap event, Loden crossed the line second behind first time PASS South winner and part-time NASCAR Camping World truck series driver Clay Rogers.

“Man I thought we had him if we got the lead on that last restart, but I guess he had a little bit left in his car than I thought he did. It was fun racing against Clay (Rogers) because he knows what it takes to win and will race you hard but clean,” said Loden after the race. “Seeing Robert Hamke back in victory lane was nice to see even though I’d rather it had been my team. He’s my chassis builder and he gives us a lot of support so to finish second to my chassis builders house car isn’t all that bad.”

Had Loden been able to pull off the win he would have become just the second two time winner in PASS South series competition this season. While the win was the goal of the night for the R & L Motorsports team after several solid practice sessions, the significant points gain made on current leader Jay Fogleman left the team feeling pretty good as they head into the final three races of the season.

“We didn’t get the win but wow what a points day we had tonight. Everyone that was in front of us in the standings finished behind us so we gained on everyone. I’ve been thinking about the championship this entire month we’ve had off and came to the conclusion that South Boston was my chance to have a shot at the championship,” stated the four-time PASS South series winner. “It’s so hard to gain points on guys like Fogleman because he’s always finishing in the top five. This race right here is what gives us a shot at winning the championship, and that’s all you can ask for this time of a year is a chance.”

There won’t be much time to relax as the Monroe Roadways crew will be right back at it on Saturday September 3rd as the series makes its second stop of the year at the Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, North Carolina in just two weeks time. With the championship within reach and just three races remaining on the 2011 PASS South schedule, two of which Andy picked up wins at a season ago, the time to peak as a race team is upon the #29 team.
