GREENVILLE, S.C. (Sept. 10, 2011) — NASCAR K&N Pro Series East driver, Andrew Smith raced to a 15th place finish in the Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 140 Saturday at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Easley, South Carolina.

Smith started 13th and started making his way to the top 10 when he was spun from behind early in the event. “I really had a pretty decent car,” Smith said after the race. “Those guys behind me just got us all jammed up when we went in to turn one and I got turned around on lap 14. There’s a bunch of talented racers in the Series again this year, but sometimes these guys drive over their heads and get others in trouble in the process. That’s what got us tonight and we never recovered from it.”

“I shouldn’t have been back there in the first place,” he explained. “This is one of my better tracks. We tried something in qualifying that would be good for race conditions but we never got to see if our gamble paid off after I got spun out.”

“I want to thank all my crew guys for helping me get prepared for this weekend,” Smith said. “Everyone had to take their Monday vacation day to stand here in the rain and then come back again on Saturday.”

“My entire team worked hard to get out of here with a good finish for SavannahPawn.com and Kids Charity of Tampa Bay. We’re not happy with 15th but I think we had three cautions for 11 laps. That’s incredible for a short track like Greenville-Pickens, and says a lot about our Series,” he said.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will return to the track for at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Friday, September 23rd.
