Max Gresham, Joe Gibbs Racing Looking To Add To Successful History At New Hampshire
Press Release
“Joe Gibbs Racing has a great track record at New Hampshire,” said Gresham. “They always take a very competitive car there whether it’s in the Sprint Cup, Nationwide or K&N East Series. They’ve taken a lot of people to Victory Lane at New Hampshire and I’m really happy and proud to have been one of them. I’d like nothing better than to be a double winner for them at New Hampshire and hopefully I can do that there this Friday.”
While Gresham is modest about his New Hampshire record, he and his No. 18 JGR Toyota have also been red hot everywhere else the K&N East crowd has competed this season posting eight Top-5 finishes in 10 events. That’s translated to a 65-point lead in the championship standings with two events – New Hampshire and Dover – remaining on the schedule.
On Friday, Gresham hopes to replicate his July performance at NHMS where he won the pole and then overcame a pit road miscue driving from the back of the field to win in dominating fashion.
“My crew chief, Bryant Frazier, and I were talking on the radio and we never gave my spotter Curtis Markham a chance to tell me pit road was open,” said Gresham in the NHMS Victory Lane afterward. “We just missed it. It was a little thing that we thought would hurt us in the long run, but we fought our way back. We drove our race and got back to the front. This Toyota Camry that Joe Gibbs Racing gave me was awesome.”
Gresham hopes to be equal to the task again this Friday. He enters the 125-mile event with season averages of 5.9 in qualifying and 5.1 at the checkered flag. Gresham has also been the model of consistency as the 18-year-old Georgia native is the only driver to complete all 1,475 laps contested in the East Series this season.
With that kind of season record and considering his recent win at New Hampshire, it’s little wonder the Belmont Abbey College freshman student is excited to return to the New Hampshire ‘Magic Mile’ this weekend.
“I can’t wait to get back to New Hampshire,” said Gresham. “That’s where I got my last East Series win and I have always run well there. Everyone on this Joe Gibbs Racing team is looking forward to another strong run. With any luck, we can do that as well as gain some points in the championship chase.”
The New Hampshire 125 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway will feature a full day of practice and qualifying this Thursday before taking the green flag Friday at 5 p.m. Eastern Time.
