SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — The field of drivers expected to be on hand when the green flag flies for the start of the NASCAR Whelen Late Model 300 presented by Danville Toyota at South Boston Speedway on Saturday, Oct. 22, will be a star-studded cast of the region’s top NASCAR Whelen All American Series competitors.

Philip Morris of Ruckersville, Va., the 2011 NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion and South Boston Speedway champion, is expected to be in the field after claiming his fourth national crown. Morris will be seeking his unprecedented 20th victory at the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval this year.

Also expected to contend for the $10,000 first-place check on Oct. 22 is Lee Pulliam of Semora, N.C., who finished third in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national championship chase and placed second to Morris in the Virginia state championship standings.

Action will get underway in preparation of the 300-lap shootout on Friday, Oct. 21. That’s when practice and qualifying time trial sessions will be held. Practice will be held from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get cranked up at 4 p.m. The top 15 positions in the NASCAR Whelen Late Model 300 presented by Danville Toyota will be set in qualifying.

On Saturday, Oct. 22, qualifying heat races will decide the final drivers in the field for the NASCAR Whelen Late Model 300 presented by Danville Toyota and the green flag will wave for the 300-lap event at 3 p.m. on Oct. 22. The 25-lap qualifying heat races will get underway at 12 p.m.

Advance tickets for the NASCAR Whelen Late Model 300 presented by Danville Toyota are currently on sale and priced at $15. Advance tickets can be purchased through Friday, Oct. 21. Adult tickets on race day will be priced at $20. Youth, ages 7-12, will be admitted for $10 with a paying adult and children, ages 6 and under, will be admitted free with a paying adult.
