Austin, TX 11/8/11 – After competing in all but one race of the season in the Sunoco Gulf Coast Championship series at Five Flags Speedway and Mobile International Speedway; Texas native Casey Smith will visit the North Georgia track that is the Gresham Motorsports Park for the 28th Annual World Crown 300. Smith will look to build upon his tenth place finish he scored at the ultra fast and smooth half-mile facility a season ago.

“Last year was our first time seeing the place and we had a car that we were able to work with and picked up speed throughout the weekend’s practices. We qualified twentieth which was a disappointment but we knew our car raced well,” said Smith. “There was that big mile up right at the start of the race and someone got in to the back of us destroying our spoiler and sending us spinning knocking the toe out of the car for the rest of the race. Despite that we still had a fast car and managed to bring home a tenth place finish with a beat up racecar.”

Unlike last season’s format of 300 laps of continuous racing action the 2011 format is broken in to three different segments. The first segment will be 100 laps of green flags of racing with $4,000 going to the leader at that time. Fans then will vote to decide an invert of the field at the end of that first segment. The following segment will be seventy-five laps of green flag racing paying $6,000 to the leader. At the conclusion of the second segment all cars one laps down will be eliminated from the race’s final segment. The third and final segment will be a twenty-five lap shootout to decide the 2011 World Crown 300 winner, who will walk away with $10,000 for the win.

With the unique format of the race unlike those that Smith is accustom to, both the challenge of the event along with the healthy prize money is intriguing.

“I’m still up in the air on the format and if it is in our favor or not. If you asked me several years ago I would say definitely not because usually I have a car that is fast over the long runs. Now with the car being a bit different from what it was we may be ok as long as we can stay in the mix and on the lead lap,” added Casey. “The way the race is setup and the way the money is distributed it’s definitely a winner’s race and that’s what we are going there to do.”

The 2011 Rheem World Crown 300 kicks off Thursday November 10th with an evening practice starting at 4pm. The following day additional practice throughout the morning will take place before qualifying for the 28th Annual World Crown 300 takes place at 7pm. Saturday November 12th one final practice for the super late models will take place at 10am . Finally Sunday afternoon at 2pm the World Crown 300 gets underway to decide the 2011 winner of the legendary event.
