I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m excited about the 500 for the first time in many years. It is good to see Mark at the top of the speed chart but it’s not just speed it’s going to be who will partner with Mark to the end for the win thats the trillion dollar question lol you know where my heart is.
Ten years ago on this date I lost a good friend. One that I never met. He was in my livingroom at least 40 times a year for over 20 years. Usually on Sunday and occasionaly on Saturday and once on Thursday. We never spoke. We never even shook hands. We had a common love of racing. He made a living doing it and I tried but never achieved anywhere near the level that he did. You might know of him too. His name was Dale Earnhart. He was one hell of a race car driver. He was the very best I have ever seen with a car that did not handle the way it should. He took what the car would give him and he understood how to take the strongest parts of a weak car and win with it. He did it like no other. He was not my favorite driver. Sometimes I hated his style and the path he sometimes chose to take to get to the finish line first. However I always admired him for having the guts and determination it took to take that path sometimes. It seemed at times like he did not care what people thought of him as long as he was a winner. A winner he was in the biggest way. Thanks Dale for the visits and I still miss seeing that # 3 crusing or shoving its way to the front. All the while maintaining the respect of those that would sometimes become victoms of your exploits behind the wheel. You are not forgotten and there won’t be another quite like you. RIP.
