Team Manager Mitch Davis on Barber: “Our team learned a lot in St. Petersburg; we were competitive but made some mistakes. We’re heading to Barber Motorsports Park with good information from the Open Test, so it will be an exciting weekend for Service Central Chip Ganassi Racing and Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing.”
Fifth car for Ganassi at Barber: The No. 01 TELMEX Dinan-Prepared BMW Riley returns to Barber Motorsports Park for the Porsche 250 as the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series shares the track with the IZOD IndyCar Series this weekend. Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas sit at the top of the GRAND-AM Rolex Series championship standings after winning the Grand Prix of Miami and the Rolex 24 At Daytona. In seven visits to Barber Motorsports Park, Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates has never finished outside the top-10 with six top-fives and four podiums. Pruett and Rojas won the event in 2008 and 2010, also claiming the runner-up position in 2009.
Charlie Kimball and the No. 83 Novo Nordisk Team
Follow Charlie on Twitter: Follow @charliekimball for updates as the driver of the No. 83 Levemir and NovoLog FlexPen Honda completes his rookie year with Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing in the IZOD IndyCar Series.
Drive the Switch: Kimball kicked off Drive the Switch, a national campaign for Novo Nordisk on options for insulin delivery on March 23rd in Tampa, FL. Fans can check out the Drive the Switch booth located in the Red Diamond Fan Zone at Barber Motorsports Park and sign a replica of the No. 83 Levemir and NovoLog FlexPen Honda Dallara. Kimball will be signing autographs at the Drive the Switch booth on Sunday, April 10th from 11-11:30 am CT.
Kimball on St. Petersburg: “I over-estimated the grip on the cold tires exiting pit lane. The No. 83 Levemir and NovoLog FlexPen Honda had the speed to catch the cars in front of me, I just made a mistake. I’m looking forward to Barber and getting back on the track.”
Barber Open Test Recap: Day one of testing at Barber Motorsports Park, Kimball turned 45 laps in the No. 83 Levemir and NovoLog FlexPen Honda Dallara with a best time of 1:13:48. Day two of testing, Kimball turned 44 laps with a best time of 1:13:33.
Kimball on Barber Open Test: “The Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing team had a very productive test at Barber Motorsports Park. There was a lot of competition but overall we accomplished our goals.”
Kimball, the Rookie: Kimball enters Round 2 in a seven-way tie for 18th place in the IZOD IndyCar Series point standings.
