Team Manager Mitch Davis on Indianapolis: “Working up to the Month of May with the first four road courses has gone really well for Service Central Chip Ganassi Racing and Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing. We’re working hard to make sure our cars are ready to start practice and qualify for the Indianapolis 500.”
A History of Excellence at IMS: Over Chip Ganassi Racing’s first 21 years of operation they have made 36 starts in the Indianapolis 500 and have brought home three victories (2000, 2008 and 2010), three poles, 11 top-fives and 21 top-10s at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. CGR’s most recent win was captured just last year by Dario Franchitti en route to winning the team’s third consecutive IZOD IndyCar Series championship.
Charlie Kimball and the No. 83 Novo Nordisk Team
Drive the Switch: Kimball kicked off Drive the Switch, a national campaign for Novo Nordisk on options for insulin delivery on March 23 in Tampa, FL. Fans can check out the Drive the Switch booth located in the east lot of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum and sign a replica of the No. 83 Levemir and NovoLog FlexPen Honda Dallara. Kimball will be signing autographs at the Drive the Switch booth on Saturday, May 27 from 12:45 – 1:15 pm EDT.
Indy 500 Rookies: Kimball will compete for the Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year title. He is currently fourth in the overall IZOD IndyCar Series Rookie of the Year point standings.
Racing with Rookies: With a win, Kimball would become the second rookie to take the checkered flag at the Indianapolis 500 for Chip Ganassi Racing after Juan Pablo Montoya won during his first attempt on the 2.5 mile oval in 2000.
The No. 83: Kimball carries the No. 83 on his Levemir and NovoLog FlexPen car because team owner Chip Ganassi finished eighth, his best finish of five starts at the Indianapolis 500 in 1983.
Brazil Recap: Kimball completed his best qualifying effort in the No. 83 Novo Nordisk Honda and started in 18th position in the Itaipava Sao Paulo Indy 300 presented by Nestle. He would ultimately come home in 16th position.
Kimball on Brazil: “It was a tough race for Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing. We got run into on pit lane and that knocked the steering off for the rest of the race. I just held on and brought the No. 83 Novo Nordisk Honda home in one piece. I am excited to take everything we have learned from the first four races and head to Indianapolis for the 500-mile race.”
