KV Racing Technology – SH Racing is Ready to Contest the 2011 Indianapolis 500
Press Release
Scheckter, 30, driving the No. 07 Team REDLINE Xtreme machine, has had a mixed lead up to the “Greatest Spectacle In Racing.” Extreme weather conditions have played a big part in disrupting practice sessions, with two days being cancelled and other days being disjointed with rain. However, Scheckter used the time wisely, working with his engineers to develop the car during those down periods.
Scheckter was able to qualify his Team REDLINE Xtreme machine on the first day of qualifications, Pole Day. The talented South African will start 21st with a four lap qualifying average speed of 224.433 mph starting on the outside of row seven.
Scheckter, has now qualified for his 10th Indy 500 and will compete in an IZOD IndyCar Series race for the 10th consecutive season. His best qualifying position at the Brickyard is 10th (2002, 2004 and 2007) and best finish is fourth in 2003 (finished seventh in 2007). In his inaugural Indy 500, in 2002, Scheckter led 85 laps and was leading the race as late as lap 173 of the 200 lap contest when an incident in Turn 4 knocked him out of the race. Never-the-less he was named the Indianapolis 500 co-Rookie of the Year. He has led the Indy 500 on three separate occasions totaling 153 laps.
The 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 will be held Sunday, May 29. It will be broadcast live on ABC beginning at 12:00 p.m. ET.
