INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 29, 2011) – Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing (NNCGR) driver Charlie Kimball finished 13th in the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500.

Kimball started the 500-mile race from the 28th position and would maintain a steady pace throughout the race. On lap 155, the 26-year old started to feel a vibration in the car and would pit for tires, fuel and left front wing adjustment. The No. 83 Levemir and NovoLog FlexPen Honda was running in the top-10 with less than 30 laps to go and relied on fuel strategy to help gain positions in the final laps. Kimball took the checkered flag for his first Indianapolis 500 in 13th-place.

With the finish, Kimball remains third in the IZOD IndyCar Series Rookie of the Year point standings and moves up three spots to 19th overall.

Up next for Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing is the Firestone Twin 275s at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday, June 11, 2011 (8:00 p.m. ET, VERSUS).

NNCGR Quoteboard

Charlie Kimball: “It was a very successful effort at my first Indianapolis 500 Mile Race. Top-15 is what we were shooting for. That last stint, we went on an alternate fuel strategy, trying to make a gain. I went a lap down there at the end. The No. 83 Levemir and NovoLog FlexPen car was amazing. I feel like I let it down. All day, we didn’t miss a beat in the pits. The whole NovoNordisk Chip Ganassi Racing team. When I was wrong on the marks, they’d get it right. When I was short, they’d get it right. They covered a lot for me. I have to appreciate them for that. It was a big effort all day. We brought home a 13th.”
