NEWTON, Iowa (June 25, 2011) – Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing (NNCGR) driver Charlie Kimball finished 22nd in the Iowa Corn Indy 250 at Iowa Speedway.

Kimball started the 250-lap race from 21st and maintained a steady pace until the first caution came out on lap 29. The No. 83 Levemir and NovoLog FlexPen car came in for its first scheduled pit stop under the yellow, but the No.12 car exited their pit box early and made contact with Kimball, causing damage to aerodynamic pieces and the radiator. The Novo Nordisk team repaired the No. 83 car, allowing Kimball to make his way back out on the .875-mile oval on lap 98. The Novo Nordisk team deemed the damage too severe and ended their race under the lights on lap 133, which resulted in a 22nd-place finish.

Kimball continues to hold third-place in the IZOD IndyCar Series Rookie of the Year point standings and 19th overall.

Up next for Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing is the Honda Indy Toronto on the streets of Toronto on Sunday, July 10, 2011 (2:00 p.m. ET, VERSUS).

NNCGR Quoteboard

Charlie Kimball: “It was really disappointing to get hit in pit lane during that first pit stop. There wasn’t anything I could do about it, I didn’t even see him. It’s a shame because the whole Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing crew worked really hard all weekend and I thought we were going to have a really good race car. As it cooled off, we were only going to get better and better. There’s a lot more speed out of the No. 83 Levemir and NovoLog FlexPen car and I can’t wait to take it to Toronto and get back on a street circuit.”
