Roush Yates Engines Earn Front Row in Bristol Cup Qualifying
Press Release
Edwards’ run of 14.989 seconds (128.014 mph) was his second No. 1 qualifying effort of the season and ninth of his career. In addition to Biffle’s 15.035-sec. second-place effort, Roush Fenway Racing teammate David Ragan qualified fifth – placing Roush Yates’ FR9 engines in three of the top five starting positions for Sunday.
“This is another extremely positive day for Ford Racing and Roush Yates Engines,” said Doug Yates, CEO. “The talents of many individuals come out in engines like these when you get to a short track like a Bristol (.533 mi) where mistakes and differences in engine power are easily magnified. The talent inside Roush Yates that designed and continues to build these FR9 engines for all Ford teams week to week – and the true driving expertise of people like Carl and Greg who know how to make these engines perform the way they’re intended – has gotten us off to a great start in 2011. I’m also very pleased that our engines have performed extremely well across a variety of track configurations so far this season.”
“Track position at these places here, Martinsville and a lot of these short tracks, is just super, super important,” said Greg Biffle, drive of the number 16 3M Ford Fusion. “My hat’s off to Doug Yates and everyone at the engine shop for giving me a fast Ford to race this weekend.”
Roush Yates’ FR9 engines won the Daytona 500; won the pole at Phoenix; earned the top four qualifying positions and the won the race at Las Vegas; and earned the front row sweep at Bristol.
