Richmond, VA, (April 29, 2011) - Andy Lally qualified the TRG Motorsports No. 71 Interstate Moving Services Ford Fusion in 42^nd place for tomorrow evening’s running of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Crown Royal presents the Matthew and Daniel Hansen 400 at Richmond International Raceway (RIR).

Lally spent the two practice sessions diligently learning the nuances of racing at the tough three-quarter-mile RIR oval. Visiting the track for the first time, Lally and crew chief Doug Richert made a host of changes on the No. 71 Interstate Moving Services Ford Fusion during the first practice. The team focused on race set-up during the first practice and then did some qualifying laps in the 45-minute last session. The team hit on a set-up that really suited Lally and ended the last practice session very strong.

In qualifying Lally posted a time of 21.629 that will see him start from the 21^st row. With nothing but opportunity in front of him, Lally is taking a measured approach to his first race at RIR.

“We picked up a little bit of time from practice,” Lally said. “We we’re ok. We improved the front like we were trying to, but lost some forward bite and that is probably where we left a little time out there. We made a change before qualifying that was a big plus. We didn’t get to tune on that too much. This is my first time at Richmond. A new driver here works the good grip off of the tires before he gets a legitimate shot at going fast. We had a good second session, the guys worked hard on the changes and we really hit on it. We will make a few adjustments to the car for the race, but it won’t be too far off what we ran in qualifying.

Richmond is a semi-typical short track. From Turn Four to the checker is unique.

You really have to set the car up for the exit of Four. The track is pretty wide. All of the races that I have seen here in the past have been good races. I am sure it will get really scrappy at the end of the night, hopefully not too scrappy.”

Kevin Buckler, team owner, has Lally taking a student’s approach to this unique short track.

“Andy is doing a good job working his way around here,” Buckler said. “He has done his homework, but no matter how many hours of video you study and ask the other guys what they are doing, in the end you have to get out there, get on it and make it happen. In the first practice we worked through a lot of set-up changes to get our notes set for the race. In the second practice the work paid off and Andy did a really nice time. In qualifying he went a couple tenths faster, but we went out really early and the track got faster and faster as it cooled down. Andy is providing Doug and the crew good feedback and he improved all through practice. Tomorrow’s race is probably going to be crazy, but we are really looking forward to it.”

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Crown Royal 400 from Richmond International Raceway will be run, Saturday, April 30. The race will be televised live on FOX starting at 7:30 p.m. with the pre-race show beginning at 7:00 p.m. Race coverage can be heard on affiliated Motor Racing Network (MRN) stations and Sirius XM Satellite NASCAR Radio 128.
