The 200-foot-wide by 80-foot-tall HD video board, will make its operational debut with Dale “test driving” it with video games with track president Marcus Smith at the Speedway backstretch. Sam’s cover art will then be revealed for the media audience – the largest NASCAR art display in the history of the sport.
“Doing the program covers for Charlotte Motor Speedway is always a special project for me, as they were the first Speedway to ever use my artwork on souvenir programs for their events – beginning way back in May of 1985,” said Bass. “Ironically, the first event was the inaugural running of the Coca Cola 600, and I have been very fortunate to have created every program cover for CMS since then. This year’s All Star artwork was particularly fun to work with, as I played up the Wild West “throwdown” theme and featured a modern-day pack of ‘asphalt cowboys.’ Bursting through a vintage looking WANTED poster featuring outlaw Kyle Busch.”
“The Coca Cola 600 cover features all the Coca Cola Racing Family of drivers racing below a close of view of them depicted on the world’s largest HD TV at CMS,” he continued. “It’s proof again that everything CMS does is BIG! These pieces of art mark my 65th and 66th consecutive program covers here, a record I’ve extremely proud and fortunate to reach.”
