Lally Ready for NASCAR Season’s First Road Course Run at Infineon
Press Release
Lally, a seasoned road racer, is looking forward to running his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Infineon. This will be a “home” race for the team, as team owner Kevin Buckler lives in nearby Novato and operates Adobe Road Winery just over the hill from Turn Three. The 10-turn, 1.99-mile undulating road course located at the gateway to wine country is a welcome race for the four-time Grand-Am sports car champion.
“Sonoma is one of the two places I would like to highlight this season, the other being Watkins Glen,” Lally said. “I don’t have a lot of laps around Infineon. I was able to take out a Late Model car last week and shake-it down around the NASCAR version of the circuit. I had never run the two back turns on that configuration. It is definitely a track that I can go to and be more aggressive right off of the trailer. It is imperative we have a good result this weekend and get maximum points.
I have a lot of in-car footage of Infineon to go with my Late Model laps. When you have as much horsepower as our Ford does, it just wants to spin the tires in every gear. Our main focus is to get the power to the ground and not to rip the rear tires off. In the short runs you have to be really aggressive. If you are not working on the guy in front of you, the guy behind you is trying to dump you into the next sandbox. You have to go hard from the drop of the green flag. You have to really pick your points. You can’t be reckless. Over aggressive moves can knock you back a few spots and you spend the rest of the day trying to make it up.”
Kevin Buckler, team owner, has a big weekend planned on and off the track.
“This is a fantastic weekend for everyone at TRG Motorsports, Adobe Road Winery and all of our friends,” Buckler said. “We have done a lot of work leading up to this weekend. We tested the car at Road Atlanta, took it back to the shop and tuned on it some more and then we went up to VIR (Virginia International Raceway) for a final shake down. Andy has some quality laps here, both behind the wheel and working with our Porsche customers to get them around here fast. We have always done well at Infineon and it is a tricky track to set-up for and even trickier to drive. Our race team started in one of the garages over in Turn 10 and we have come a long way since then. We need to take advantage of this weekend to move up in the points standings and get our mojo working for the second half of the season.”
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Toyota/Save Mart 350 from Infineon Raceway can viewed live on TNT starting at 2 p.m. ET. The race can be heard on affiliated Performance Racing Network (MRN) stations and Sirius XM Satellite Radio 90. Qualifying can be seen on the SPEED Channel starting at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 24.
