Granny Grump
Hello loyal readers and other folks. This week this race report with be a bit on the short side. Cousin Grouch is busy preparin’ for our little township’s “BYBB Contest” so she asked for this week off. Course I owe the woman for steppin’ in for me when I was away but she is a good ol’ gal and cousin so she deserves this time off. Know what I mean? For those you who don’t know what this contest is about, well, it’s our Bring Your Best Beans Contest, a cook off among our best and not so best. I’ll tell ya one somethin’ right now, Cousin Grouch does amazin’ things with beans. Course the beans do amazin’ things to us, but, that’s neither here nor there. I’m wishin’ her luck with hopes Duck and I get a best cousin and duck portion for our enjoyment.

This weekend was a strange one for certain. We were back to 2 different tracks in 2 different states with 2 different series, but the switch up was they were both road course races. ARCA had a race too at Winchester Speedway, but, it wasn’t televised. Sad for us I say! Duck and I enjoy that series. It was telecast via their website but Duck and I don’t know how to do that so we missed out on that one altogether. I did some checkin’ for ya and the winner was Dakoda Armstrong. This was his hometown track, so good for him I say! And that cagey veteran Frank Kimmel finished 8th makin’ him the only driver in that series to have a top 10 finish in every race this season so good for him too I say! The rest you can look up.

So Saturday the Nationwide Series headed to Wisconsin at the Road America track and this was the first time the Nationwide series raced there. That is a big ol’ track, pert near 4 miles long! Course every time this series or the Cup series heads to a road course some of the “more money” teams add or substitute “road ringers” as Duck and I call them. There were several well known ones in the Nationwide race. Michael McDowell drivin’ Rowdy Boy’s #18, Max Papis, Jacques Villeneuve, Billy Johnson and Ron Fellows were the first 5 starters so Duck and I quacked and cheered as the green flag flew even though we like ovals much better. But this was a pretty excitin’ race. The “road ringers” were hopeful and confident that they would come out in the top spot, but, the regulars were determined. Those boys were just wild and crazy from the get go. It’s hard to remember who was where on what lap bein’s that Duck and I are wore out, but more on that later. If memory serves me rightly, the race was scheduled for 50 laps but Duck and I figured with the way they were runnin’ from the beginnin’ it would go longer. Course it did. Can’t do a lap by lap deal but I will say on the last scheduled lap that Vulleneuve guy saw a wide spot comin’ up and dove for it. Problem was it ended as quick as it appeared causin’ a big ol’ mess with Brian Scott and that cutie Max Papis. Oh that man was not a happy pappy, let me tell ya that much right now. So 2 laps later they went green again and they also went yellow again. Course there’s only 3 chances to end under a green/white/checkered and Duck and I were sure it would take all three. Course it did. Fuel was an issue yet again and on the last one of those restarts Reed Sorensen was the leader but the caution came out again. Reed slowed but Ron Fellows, the 2nd place fellow, held his speed and passed Reed up. There was all kinds of confusion goin’ on everywhere, from the track to the pit boxes and even in the broadcast booth, but Reed was called the winner and rightly so Duck and I believe. Good for him I say! Fellows, Jacques man. cutie Elliott Sadler and Mike Wallace rounded out the top 5 finishers. Good for all of them I say. Duck and I thought it was real nice to see Mike in a great finishin’ order. We enjoyed ourselves, I can tell ya that much. And nobody was hurt, thank our good and gracious LORD, so all in all it was an enjoyable viewin’ pleasure.

Sunday found us loadin’ up our snacks and drink of choice on the crates gettin’ ready for that road course race out in California. Again Duck and I weren’t all fired up, but, we felt we needed to support those boys that were racin’ their hearts out. Infineon is a itty bitty track compared to the previous day’s race, bein’ only half the size. Wide smilin’ Logano, cutie McMurray, Menard, Hamlin and Flyin’ Ryan lead us to the green as Duck and I quacked and cheered. Seemed like no time at all we heard a loud racket and the floor boards were shakin’ under the livin’ room so Duck and I headed out to see what in heck was goin’ on.

From the moment we stepped out on the porch there was so much sqealin’ goin’ on we knew instantly our next door neighbor Maizie Miller’s piglets were loose and got tangled up under our house yet again. Oh I was madder than any reasonable person can imagine. We couldn’t leave them there to tear stuff up but crawlin’ under there and catchin’ them is just so time consumin’, dirty and infuriatin’. But a granny and duck has got to do what a granny and duck’s got to do. Then to top it all off when Duck and I finally got that last nasty little piglet beast in Maizie’s pen Maizie pulled up yellin’ at us accusin’ us of tryin’ to do somethin’ illegal like. Oh my good and gracious LORD, Duck went off on that woman. GOOD for him I say! I was too tired and hot to even say a word but Duck took care of business, let me tell ya that one somethin’ right now. So hours later, with our clothes, feathers and ourselves scratched up, muddy, sweaty and wore to a frazzle we crawled in the front door only to find ants in our snacks and Kurt Busch doin’ donuts.

So we basically missed it all! Good for Kurt I say! I love sayin’ I told ya so, but, I did tell ya that Kurt was gonna win soon, just didn’t know it would be so soon and that I would miss it. So today Duck and I are still tired and very sore, but, we’ll be fine, I can assure ya of that one somethin’. I looked up some Cup news that I can tell you about, though. Tony and Vickers had a get even session. First Tony on Brian and then Brian on Tony. Whatever boys. Tony wound up 39th with his rear on top of a tire wall and Vickers finished 36th so how did that tangle up help you boys out? And Junior didn’t finish the race, only finished 45 laps with overheatin’. Jeff Gordon, Flippin’ Carl, Clint Bowyer and that cute Aussie Marcos Ambrose rounded out the top 5 so good for all of them I say and the rest you can look up just like we did!

Now for a little other stuff. I was so disgruntled about missin’ the race that I couldn’t sleep so I was scannin’ the TV and came across a show, “The Glades” on A&E. Course it was already in the works when I tuned in but I couldn’t believe my eyes. There were Cup drivers on there! Oh my good and gracious Lord I saw Joey Logano, Tony Stewart, a little monkey Tony called JR, Brian Vickers and when Flippin’ Carl started speakin’ Duck flew out of his bed and we sat and enjoyed a race related story. Wasn’t bad at all considerin’ our earlier day’s happenin’s. We saw drivers and race cars and even heard some engines roar. Better than nothin’ I say!

So there you have it. Email, comment or don’t. I’m too tired to care. Cousin dear, I missed your writin’ here and I hope ya win and even if ya don’t stop by here with a nice sample bowl from your BYBB entry. Know what I mean? Grump over and out.
