Press Release
Indianapolis Motor Speedway
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series: 20 of 36
Track: Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Track Length: 2.5 miles
Date: July 31, 2011
Dave Blaney will compete in one of the marquee races of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) season this weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) will field the No. 36 Big Red Chevrolet for the Brickyard 400 presented by Golden Corral on ESPN.
TBR AT INDY – TBR made one start at the famed track in 2009. Mike Skinner drove the No. 36 TBR Chevrolet to the 39th starting position. A transmission problem relegated the team to a 41st-place finish.
BLANEY AT INDY – Blaney competed in 12 events at the 2.5-mile track. In 12 starts, he collected one top-10 and has an average finish of 28.4. He tallied his best finish of ninth with TBR owner Tommy Baldwin calling the shots of the No. 22 Bill Davis Racing entry.
MEET BLANEY AT THE TRACK – Indianapolis Motor Speedway is hosting the largest 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series autograph session on Saturday, July 30th for Brickyard 400 ticket holders. Blaney will appear at the 12 p.m. session in the Pagoda. Passes will be distributed at 9 a.m. in the Pagoda Plaza.
BIG RED – The Texas-based beverage company will return to the No. 36 Big Red Chevrolet this weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Big Red, with its distinctive flavor and widespread distribution in 44 states, was one of the nation’s fastest growing soft drink brands in 2010. Big Red, Inc. subsidiary ALL SPORT Body Quencher was the primary sponsor of the No. 36 Chevrolet at Kentucky Speedway, Martinsville Speedway and Infineon Raceway and an associate sponsor at Talladega Superspeedway this season.
KIDS EAT FREE – TBR will compete to feed America’s families again this weekend. If the No. 36 Big Red Chevrolet finishes in the top-10 in the Brickyard 400, kids eat free (with an adult purchase) on Monday, August 1st. Golden Corral will also donate $5,000 to the DAV.
ESPN BROADCAST PRESENTED BY GOLDEN CORRAL – Golden Corral will be presenting the broadcast of the Brickyard 400 on ESPN Sunday, July 31st at 1 p.m. EST. Fans will have exclusive access to in-car camera views from the cockpit, rear and roof of the No. 36 Chevrolet.
CHASSIS NO. 293 – Blaney will once again run the No. 293 chassis this weekend in the Brickyard 400. TBR purchased the chassis from Richard Childress Racing. Jeff Burton drove the chassis prior to its debut with TBR at Kentucky Speedway. At Kentucky, rain gave the team the 32nd-place starting spot after posting fast lap times in practice and qualifying. A pit stop issue and flat tire relegated Blaney to a 33rd-place finish.
SPRINT SUMMER SHOWDOWN – Sunday’s Brickyard 400 is the first race in the Sprint Summer Showdown presented by HTC EVO 3D. Any driver who wins between Indianapolis and Bristol (the next five races) will become a finalist for the AdvoCare 500 in Atlanta. If one of those eligible drivers wins the Atlanta race, then the driver, the driver’s charity and fan each collect $1,000,000. Blaney’s charity of choice is Camp Corral. LAST RACE RECAP: LENOX INDUSTRIAL TOOLS 301 – Blaney started 37th in the Lenox Industrial Tools 301. He drove the No. 36 Golden Corral Chevrolet up to the 17th position while the TBR crew worked on the handling of the racecar. Blaney finished 29th following an incident on lap 226.
IN THE POINTS – The 29th-place finish at New Hampshire propelled the TBR team back to the 32nd position in NSCS owner points, 55 points behind 31st. TBR is now 44 points ahead of 36th and still locked into the top-35. Blaney also moved up in the driver point standings and back to the 31st spot. He is now 72 points behind David Gilliland in 30th and eight points ahead of Casey Mears in 32nd.
LIGHTHOUSE MISSION 200 – In addition to presence on the No. 36 Big Red Chevrolet this weekend, Lighthouse Mission will headline the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at Riverhead Raceway. The Lighthouse Mission will set up a collection bin outside the track for fans to bring donations of non-perishable food to the track and show support for the local organization. Dave Blaney Quotes:
ON THIS WEEKEND IN INDY– “I’m excited to go to Indy. We’re bringing back the car from Kentucky, and it was really fast. I’m also really excited to see my son Ryan race in ARCA. We’re lucky that ARCA is racing at Lucas Oil Raceway, so I will be out there Thursday night to watch him compete in his second ARCA race. We are going to do an autograph session on Saturday with the rest of the Cup drivers. It will be a busy but fun weekend. I just hope we can get the finish we have been fighting for and let kids eat free at Golden Corral on Monday.”
Tommy Baldwin Quotes:
ON THIS WEEKEND – “It’s always great to go back to Indy. It’s a really cool place to go to with a lot of history. It’s a good track and provides a lot of great racing. I have had a lot of success there as a crew chief, so I’m hoping we can continue that this weekend.”

About Tommy Baldwin Racing:
Tommy Baldwin Racing was formed in 2009 by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Crew Chief Tommy Baldwin. Baldwin utilized a slumping economy to open a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team with a stringent budget. The team competed in two full seasons with multiple drivers behind the wheel of the No. 36 Chevrolet and improved in the standings each year.
Based in Mooresville, N.C., TBR will compete in the full NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule in 2011 with NASCAR veteran Dave Blaney piloting the No. 36 Golden Corral Chevrolet. Looking to improve on-track performance, TBR found success early in the 2011 season with partners Golden Corral, Big Red and Accell Construction. TBR’s driver development program, Heinke-Baldwin Racing, will also compete in various NASCAR series in 2011.
