RICHMOND, Va. — Saturday night started out pretty rough for the Sprint Cup Series — two yellow flags in the first eight laps at Richmond International Raceway.
Then Kasey Kahne went spinning on lap 27. Then, after Kahne slid to the back of the pack because of two trips to pit road for repairs, an Aussie dive-bombed the Red Bull Toyotas not long after that.
“I just know that I was on the outside going into the straightaway and then I just started to turn in and then the 83 hit me pretty hard,” Kahne said. “Honestly, he got hit by someone else, but I haven’t seen it so I don’t know what exactly happened. It was kind of a weird deal.”
Trust us, Kasey. Marcos Ambrose clipped your teammate and took out both of you.
The end result: full-blown Chase elimination for Kahne, who finished 38th, and a bitter Brian Vickers, who let Ambrose
know how he felt by blocking his path around the race track. Vickers ended up 33rd after getting a parking ticket by
NASCAR.
“What can I say? The 9 wrecked us. Both of us,” Vickers said. “Not a good day for the Red Bull cars.”
UP NEXT: Geico 400, Sunday, Sept. 18, Chicagoland Speedway, Joliet, Ill.
