Lally Looking to Forward to Racing in the Windy City
Press Release(9/15/11) Mooresville, N.C. - The No. 71 Interstate Moving Services Ford Fusion heads to Joliet, Illinois this weekend for the running of the GEICO 400. The team will also be carrying a new associate sponsorship from RB Enterprises during their trip to the windy city.
The race will mark Andy Lally’s first career trip to Chicagoland Speedway. Lally wants luck to be on his side as he hopes to regain his momentum this weekend.
“I look forward to trying to get the momentum going in our direction again. We had a good run through July and August but have had some bad luck in September so far with a blown tire at Atlanta and then getting wrecked in Richmond. I think we are heading to Chicago with a slightly improved car under us and I can’t wait to get the weekend started. This track and Martinsville are the last two on the schedule that I have not driven a Sprint Cup car at yet so there will be that challenge of trying to get up to speed in a short amount of time as well. I know our guys have been working so hard in the shop to get these cars the best they can for me and I’m thankful for that.”
Crew chief Doug Richert is looking forward to running the 1.5 mile oval as well. He commented:
“Our mile and a half program is an area where we’ve worked at getting stronger. Hopefully, this weekend will start to yield some of the benefits from the work we’ve put in. With ten races left in the season, everyone is working like crazy to find some momentum heading into next year. A strong run at a 1.5 mile track would be a huge boost for our momentum and help to demonstrate how much this organization has improved recently.”
Team owner Kevin Buckler sees Chicagoland as an opportunity to get back on track.
“We had six strong consecutive runs heading into Atlanta and a little bad luck mixed in. We have fast cars and a great group of guys. We are still solidly in the top-35. Our focus is to finish there for the second straight year. We’ve come a long way in just two years. We’ve built ourselves into a solid top-35 team. However, we don’t want to stop there. We want to continue to build this organization and I think we have the right group of guys in place to do just that.”
Coverage of the GEICO 400 begins Sunday at 2:00 pm ET on ESPN.
