These penalties were expected and are not excessive. Nascar did not penalize Mikey nor did they take away the win, which is the important thing. The emotionally uplifting win which came ten years to the day after his last win at Daytona that saw the death of his dear friend and mentor Dale Earnhardt, Sr. What is important here is that much of the raw grief that fans and obviously Nascar people still felt at the beginning of Speed Weeks has now miraculously begun to heal, and it began with Michael Waltrip’s win and with the showing of a program called “The Day.” If you haven’t seen it, please try to do so. It will go a long way to heal.
