Tire Gamble Relegates Jason White To A 16th Place Finish At Texas Motor Speedway
Press Release
Starting 20th, White battled inside the top-20 during the opening laps trying to get the GunBroker.com Chevrolet dialed-in. At lap 52, under caution, Kendrick made the call for a chassis adjustment and fuel only, taking the No. 23 machine out of sequence with the leaders. By doing so, White would restart inside the top-10 when the field went back to green.
Finally happy with the handling of his truck, White took the opportunity under caution to come down pit road for four fresh Goodyear tires. With pit strategy in play, White made his way back down pit road just two laps later to top-off his GunBroker.com Chevrolet with fuel.
Restarting 27th, the last truck on the lead lap, White was up to the 17th position just 18 laps later when the sixth caution flag of the evening was displayed on lap 90 for an accident on the frontstretch. Still happy with his truck, White brought his yellow and black machine down pit road for fuel only. The quick stop allowed White to restart 7th with 72 laps remaining.
Running as high as second, but consistently in the top-10 over the next 43 circuits, the GunBroker.com machine was solid in clean air. Therefore, when a caution flag was displayed on lap 138 with less than 20 laps remaining, Kendrick made the call to leave the No. 23 Chevrolet out on the track instead of coming down pit road for four tires.
Restarting ninth, White was scored 13th just one lap later and down to 17th by lap 145. With nothing left to lose, Kendrick brought White down pit road under the final caution of the evening for four tires. White would restart 21st and cross the stripe following a green, white, checker finish in the 16th position behind race winner, Ron Hornaday.

“At the end of the day it was a disappointing end to a good night for us. We had a top-10 truck tonight and we proved that by running up there for most of the second half of the race. I was really happy with my truck in clean air and I feel like Chad (Kendrick) made good calls all night to get us up there and keep us there. However, looking back, not taking four tires at the end with about 20 to go, really hurt us.”
