TIMOTHY PETERS, No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra, Red Horse Racing

Finishing Position: 1st

How special is this win for you?

“It’s special! I can’t say enough about the guys on this Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra in victory lane tonight. We had a tire coming apart. I spun out over here in turns one and two and came down pit road. Butch Hylton (crew chief) made a great call to put four tires on. But the guys do a phenomenal job. We had a little hiccup last week, but they made up for it this week. Like I said last week, I love my guys — they get me on and off pit road well. Thank the Lord man, I waspraying for no caution there at the end.”

How did you bring your truck to victory lane?

“We unloaded and we were super tight in practice, Butch Hylton (crew chief) and the guys — they threw the kitchen sink at it and everything but the driver. Man, we persevered tonight, I’m telling you. I can’t say enough about Tom DeLoach (owner) for giving me an awesome opportunity to get me where I’m at. Everybody back at the shop, Toyota — this thing drove like a Lexus.”

How were you able to recover from a spin to win tonight?

“Well the way we fired off tonight with our Toyota Tundra, we started off tight and everybody did a great job working hard. We got stickers and I was up under the 32 (Steve Arpin) and I just lost it under him and I was like, ‘Man, I don’t know what happened. They did a great call, came down pit road. Obviously we had to take four tires. We took the adjustment back out that we made previous and put it back to the way it was before and if I would have told you that was our last caution and we were going to go the rest of the way green, I would have told you were crazy.

With 20 to go, Butch (Hylton, crew chief) was calling out the times and he was saying he was fastest on the track just trying to get off the corner straight. At that point, when the tires are worn down like that, you just want to hustle because you know you have a good truck. I was just trying to be patient with the throttle and it paid off. The good Lord was looking out for us tonight. We brought our Toyota Tundra home in first place. It’s unbelievable — to win at Indianapolis just because it has Indy involved with it means a lot.”

BUTCH HYLTON, crew chief, No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra, Red Horse Racing

How did you keep your team calm after the spin to be able to recover for the win?

“That’s pretty easy with these guys. Our whole team is pretty veteran. We have a lot of guys obviously eight, nine year veteran guys and Timothy (Peters) has been doing this forever. He kept his head and he drove his guts out that last stint. I was so impressed with what he did and how he didn’t use his truck up — just one mark on the right front, that’s it. The guys did a great job. We had a lot of help from the chassis engineering building at Toyota Racing Development and I have to mention them. They’ve really worked with us hard the last couple weeks and hopefully we’re on the right track. We’ve been struggling a little bit. This was great to do this. I kind of had one get away from us last week, so it was nice to get
this one.”

TOM DELOACH, owner, No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra, Red Horse Racing

How does a win like this one in Indy affect your entire organization?

“Those days that you’re thinking about what in the world am I doing, why am I continuing to pull money into this. You get to this point and have that win, it’s magic. It makes it right — it’s fantastic. Working with these guys, they come together, they never worked together until the beginning of this year. It was taking a little while to get traction but you can kind of see the results beginning to show through. It’s working. I’m very proud of this organization. We preach professional all the time and execute and dog-gone if they didn’t do it tonight.”

DAVID STARR, No. 81 ASI Limited / Zachry Toyota Tundra, SS Green Light Racing

Finishing Position: 3rd

How does it feel to finish third at Lucas Oil Raceway?

“It seemed like the start of the season was just bad luck. We’ve been working on new things. Either we couldn’t get the handling right on our truck or just had bad luck on the race track. It seemed like Jason Miller, my crew chief and Matt Faulkner, my engineer and everybody on our Zachry Toyota Tundra racing team was — last four weeks have been really good for us. We had a lot of momentum and just building on it, making our trucks better and working on our setups trying to enhance everything. We had a good truck tonight all night long. We’re just racing hard and think we moved up to
fourth and was racing side-by-side with the 17 (Timothy Peters) and just couldn’t sustain him.

My crew chief came over about nine or eight laps to go and he said, ‘Hey, you’re going to have to start conserving fuel.’ I was like, ‘Man.’ You’re
racing hard and trying to hold off guys and they’re the ones backing up to you. It was just a great race. Our truck was good all night long and it was an exciting race. It was just tough to conserve fuel right there at the end. We all wanted to race for the win, and I was just the last eight laps trying to conserve fuel. Great finish for us. Zachry has been with us for four years and all our sponsors. We’re just excited to get our first top-five of the season and look forward to going to Pocono next week — it’s going to be a great race for everybody.”

MIGUEL PALUDO, No. 7 STEMCO-Duroline Toyota Tundra, Red Horse Racing

Finishing Position: 4th

Do you feel like you have momentum headed into Pocono?

“Yeah, sure — we needed that. I feel like today we could have finished the deal. We were running good sometimes and something happens. I’m really proud of my guys. We’re a little bit off in practice, like three-tenths and they made changes. It was better for qualifying and race trim was a tick better. Our first pit, Rick (Gay, crew chief) did an awesome call and we were good — we were really consistent. Congrats to Timothy (Peters) for the win and our two (Red Horse Racing) trucks in the top-four is pretty good. I’m really glad to finish this deal and thank my sponsor and everybody who is part of this year’s deal.”

How was your race?

“We were a little bit off at the beginning of the race. We were tight in the middle, loose back to the throttle. On the first pit, we could have hanged to the caution came out and the first pit Rick (Gay, crew chief) did awesome changes and after that the truck handled — it was good lap times and it was turning good all the way to the finish of the race. There was a lot of pit strategy and quick changes and I could drive it to the end. It’s a lot of team work and I’m so proud of the guys.”
