Pre-Race Notes and Quotes

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!: After an impressive run in Turn One Racing’s No. 66 Chevrolet at Lucas Oil Raceway, the team has selected 18-year-old rookie Ross Chastain to pilot the No. 66 National Watermelon Promotion Board Chevrolet in the 14th Annual O’Reilly “200” at Bristol Motor Speedway. This will mark Chastain’s second start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and his first visit ever to Bristol’s half-mile oval. “Wow, this is nothing like anything I’ve ever driven on,” said Chastain after arriving in “Thunder Valley”. “I can’t describe it. Right now, just looking at it, it’s amazing.”

CHASTAIN SUPPORTS FOOD CITY FAMILY RACE NIGHT: Ross Chastain will sign autographs for race fans on Thursday, August 25th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Food City Family Race Night festival on State Street in downtown Bristol, Tennessee. Teammate Cole Whitt and his No. 60 Fuel Doctor / Red Bull Chevrolet will also be on hand as well. Fans can expect a fun-filled evening jam-packed with driver autograph sessions, show cars, simulators, souvenir trailers, entertainment and a smorgasbord of free food samples. The action will get underway at 1 p.m. and continue until 9 p.m. $5 advance tickets are available at area Food City locations. Tickets will be $6 on the day of the event. Children 12 and under are admitted free of charge. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Holston Home for Children and Haven of Rest. For more information, please visit www.foodcity.com/racing.

TURN ONE RACING NAMES TRIP BRUCE CREW CHIEF: Championship winning Crew Chief Trip Bruce has joined Turn One Racing and will call the shots for Ross Chastain at Bristol. Bruce has worked for some of the largest, most well known and well respected teams in NASCAR. Bruce was responsible for leading Johnny Benson’s championship run in 2008, where they garnered five wins, five poles, 14 top-five and 18 top-10s.

CHASTAIN’S OUTLOOK FOR BRISTOL: “Well, coming off our last run, I’m hoping to do better. You always want to improve. With Trip coming on and all that happening, I’m looking forward to it. I hope it goes as well as we want it too. I’m ready to have some fun and have another good finish. If we can do the same thing and just improve at the end a little bit better, I’d be really happy.”

THE CREW CHIEF’S CHOICE FOR BRISTOL: Crew Chief Trip Bruce has selected chassis number 75 for the O’Reilly 200. This is the same truck that Chastain qualified 15th with at Lucas Oil Raceway and went on to finish 10th in his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut!

ABOUT THE NATIONAL WATERMELON PROMOTION BOARD:

The National Watermelon Promotion Board (NWPB) operates with a single objective: to increase consumer demand for watermelon through promotion, research, and educational programs. The Orlando-based non-profit organization was formed in 1989 by watermelon growers and shippers. Since then, the NWPB has developed marketing programs to boost watermelon sales in supermarkets throughout the U.S. and Canada. NWPB is also working to develop sales opportunities for watermelon in Japan, Mexico and the U.K. Through high profile publicity on television, radio, newspapers and magazines, the board has showcased watermelon as a healthy, refreshing, versatile fruit. Thanks in part to board efforts, watermelon is not only for picnics anymore, but has won a regular place on consumers’ shopping lists enjoyed year-round in slices or added to a wide variety of desserts, drinks and other recipes.

ABOUT MELON 1:

Melon 1, Inc. is the largest watermelon shipper on the East coast, shipping over 5,000 loads each year. The company has been in business for three generations and has two corporate offices located in Barnwell, S.C. and Brooklyn, N.Y. Melon 1 ships watermelons 52 weeks a year, domestic and imported, with destinations to most major chain stores and retailers in the United States and Canada.
